Can I use HP ink cartridges 56 instead of 54? They don't make 54 anywhere!?
Did they change the cartridges from 54 to 56? I bought a printer recently that uses #54 cartridges but they don't make those anywhere! I see 56 instead and in combo packs it's the 56 that is paired with the 57...not 54. What gives? Is the 56 the updated one? Can I use it instead of the 54?

Most of the time the two are not interchangeable.
54 is a new cartridge on the market and the availability does stink.
Send me you your printer model number via messenger and I will tell you which consumables can be used.

Not sure why you're having trouble finding this cartridge. Take a look below.
HP 54 is only compatible with Deskjet 4100 Series printers, 4140, 4180 and F4140 specifically. HP 56 will not work with the above mentioned printers.

I have an HP printer and with mine it's the same thing. It takes either 96 or 97. The difference is that one of them holds more ink. I'm guessing the same might be true in your case since you own an HP printer.
Anyway, go to one of the major office stores such as Office Depot or Staples and the clerk should be able to answer your question.

Take your empty cartridge to Office Depot and they will refill it for you for about half the price of a new one. If they already have one, you just need to trade your old cartridge in.
