I need to exercise, but I can't walk due to a left knee and leg injury. What can I do? Please help.?

Update:

I am 70 and had my leg and ankle broken when I was in H.S.

And then when I was 64 I had an accident where a car landed on my knee and I was pinned for an half an hour. I now walk with a cane and wear a brace there. I am looking for some upper body exercises that will burn some calories to hel me loose weight because I am diabetic.

How about a stationary bike? I am on my best behavior, or I would suggest other ways of burning calories!

my grandmother is a brittle diabetic with multiple leg and back problems. Her doctor recommended a stationary bike or a mobile tricycle and water aerobics. as both are low impact. The water aerobics are especially good because the water gives you buoyancy and there is little to no impact on the joints.

How bad is the injury? If it's serious than I recommend you don't exercise, it could be dangerous. If it's just a sprain I'd still recommend not exercising, don't make your injury worse than it is.
