Are private pilots flying less now that the cost of fuel keeps going up?

It seems that I don't see as many small planes flying around than there were a few years ago.

Perhaps thats true. Fuel, security and numerous TFRs all hamper the enjoyment of general aviation flying.

It is true to some extent. I fly less now than I would like to but it is not because of the cost of fuel. What I see more often now is the amount of student pilot activity. There is a good demand for commercial pilots now. This translates into a lot of training flights. My old flight school is currently swamped with international training students.

I'm not flying any less. If you can afford a plane

the cost of fuel isn't likely to be an issue. I do

fly less in the winter time for its just not as enjoyable.

Absolutely! Pilot training start ups are at a low and you are correct many aircraft are sitting in hangars or tie downs that have not moved in a long time, it is the same with other recreational vehicles such as boats and motor homes.

i'm not flying any less, but i have cut back on alot of other things so that i can keep flying every week...but if you have to worry about the cost, you probably don't need to be doing it

Given how much people are now questioning using their cars, I'm sure that PPL holders are also asking themselves about the cost of flying...
