Anyone know of an animal welfare organization/ rescue entity other than the county animal control officer?

Here's the situation...An adult male boxer is allowed to run free in a fenced-in yard adjacent to our property. He's a very endearing, friendly albeit desperately lonely dog while his owner (no...NOT a quarterback playing for the Atlanta Falcons) is ensconced in the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary for "alleged" firearms violations. Well, suffice to say, the owner has been in the Pen since this past March and the case is no where near a resolution. Relatives of the owner come by every so often to feed this solitary, dejected dog but offer little if any companionship. All these many months we would hear his lonesome cries and forlorn barking knowing something should be done, but not knowing exactly what since we have our hands full with small children and their skittish kittens. We've even made certain this piteous boxer had sufficient water given the severe drought conditions here in the Atlanta area, but, it's now dipping into the frosty temps and boxers don't have a very thick coat.

Update:

Ya'll can have a more enjoyable weekend knowing I've been calling and emailing all the great contacts you so generously contributed to the cause of the 'lonely boxer'...soon to be "Rescued Boxer"__THANKS SO MUCH ALL !!!

Geez, that's terrible. The only two things you could do is try to have the dog signed over to you then keep it or give it to an organization or call animal control to investigate.

If you choose the latter then let them know that the dog is not a treat to anyone. Suggest the dog be taken to the Humane Society (a no kill shelter) or you could do it yourself.

There are many small rescues/shelters for animals everywhere. Get online and google rescues and shelters near you.

Here's a few websites I've found. Good luck!

You gotta love those bully breeds! They're big babies inside.

find a boxer rescue group. petfinder.com has some listing, akc.org will to, try the boxer club in atlanta.

does the dog have a house to go in for cooler nights and days? with something for bedding? if the rescues get you know where then an animal shelter may need to be called.

of direction. even though if that's a cool night or spring day, then the motor vehicle would not get warm. The canines could be fantastic. If we could desire to %. something up after the canines park and Cassidy is with us we don't think of two times. even though if that's a heat day or the sunlight is out then we lock her in with the air on. We use our distant to get decrease back in. We continuously you ought to be rapid yet she fairly would not innovations. For all those saying you mustn't go away your canines interior the motor vehicle because of the fact you will not go away a small toddler. C'mon- do you go away your canines interior the homestead on my own? could you go away your 2 365 days previous interior the homestead on my own? you mustn't go away a canines in a warm motor vehicle for an identical motives. however the assessment leaves something to be needed, do no longer you think of?

  • contact a boxer rescue group in your area..find one by searching petfinder.com with your zip code put in boxer for type of dog. when you see a boxer rescue group listing their animals up for adoption, contact them , ask if and how you can get this dog in their rescue. or call local vets and ask if theyre affiliated with a foster org.

i'd refrain from contacing aspca only because the humane society shelters are pretty overcrowded and high kill, even though they do the best they can.

I assume your in America juding by the content of your question, in that case don't you have a version of our RSPCA, that is the royal society for the prevention of cruelty to animals, i'm sure I heard of something similar over there, you could also check the phone book or an online directory for animal welfare charities.

Contact the SPCA. Regardless of who you contact, this dog shouldn't be left on his own any longer than he already has been.
