What to wear to a celebration of life?

Grandmother loved the beach and grew up on them. All her life she was near the beach. Florida, Mexico,Texas.

The family is having a celebration of her life at an upscale steakhouse during non-public hours. I want to wear a tasteful but semi-tropical silk shirt with stonewash jeans to honor her love of the beach.

Tasteful or not?

Update:

Edit: I went casual and it was perfect. Several others did likewise. Grandma would be proud. We had a beautiful celebration of life that all enjoyed immensely.

I tahnk all of you for the advice

Wear exactly what you want, that sounds perfect! It is very tasteful, and comes straight from your heart, to hers. My condolences for your loss, but let her memories keep the smile on your face, and sand between your toes :)

i think the stonewashed jeans (how old are those things?) are way too casual. unless you know that everyone else is also wearing jeans, then you should at least pair the silk shirt with some khaki slacks or corduroys. although this is a celebration, not a mournful event, you should still dress to match the specialness of the event. since this is at an upscale restaurant, i assume most people will probably wear slacks, shirts, and ties they just won't wear black since you aren't mourning. so, perhaps consider wearing a plain shirt and slacks, with a floral/tropical tie to honor your granny and still dress to fit the occasion. consider a coral colored shirt, chocolate brown slacks, and a tropical tie with shades of coral, green, and white. this will help to avoid the black, somber hues and will still have a sunny, happy vibe.
