The "popcorn" button on our microwaves...one of life's great mysteries?
I find it rather odd that ALL of the bags of microwave popcorn have the instructions: "Do not use the popcorn button on your microwave".
(At least, all the brands I've tried say that I've tried many, many kinds).
Anyone know what purpose the setting serves? Is it the equivalent to the burnt-beyond-recognition setting on our toasters that we never use? lol.
Showtune: LOL! I know, right? That setting is just the devil.
Healing: I'm with you. Burnt is burnt.
Gerry D: Touche, touche! :-D You know me far too well. Sorry to ruin that pleasure.

The Popcorn Button:
Written By Doctor Music
Popcorn Button oh Popcorn button How I loathe thee
You have turned my souflees to the size of a small key
May it be some chicken or some french fries on the side
When you say "Can cook Anything" I know that you have Lied
But yet curiosity consumes and pushing is a must
Yet everything you cook you burn I hope you turn to dust
Any kind of Microwave whether big or small
You make me want to smash it and throw it to the wall
I opened a package of popcorn today with a new microwave
pushed your button and a moment later was too burnt to save
I surrender, Popcorn Button you are to quick for me
So tomorrow I will by a new microwave without including thee

Mine works GREAT. I was amazed.
When I hit the popcorn button, it first offers the setting for a 3.5oz bag, so I choose that, because it is the exact size bag I use.
It works wonderfully.
One thing I like to do, though, is lay the bag on a shallow bowl, so it isn't touching the microwave surface directly. I found that my popcorn STARTS to burn when it touches the carousel of the microwave (I think there might be some particles of food on the surface, and it heats the bag there a little faster).
Mine is a Panasonic "inverter" 1250 watt, high power. I bought it about 2 years ago for $100.

The popcorn button on my microwave runs for two minutes and forty seconds. The popcorn generally needs three minutes to pop thoroughly. So I just press 3-0-0 and Start. I don't mind the extra button pushes!

Shelby,
you have to stop buying that "high-end" stuff and come down to earth with the rest of us mortals. I use the "popcorn" button all the time and it works just fine, and I want to thank you for now drawing attention to this. Now I will have extra reading to do before I make popcorn - so much for simple pleasures huh?
I bet you also tell kids to look to see if the wrappers their lollipops are covered with are made from "recycled material" as well huh? I also bet your summer time frozen popsicles are the ones that don't have "wood" as the holding piece to the frozen flavored ice either huh?
Is there anything else you would like to ruin for me now that we are on the topic of popcorn? LOL!!!
Have a great "eco" or "green" day!

I dont know why they how those settings! On my microwave it ask you like 10 questions before it starts... just to see how big the bag of popcorn is... and sometimes that works but if u happen to answer one wrong... charge that popcorn to the game...!

I use the popcorn setting (I guess I never read the labels...) but I still stay by the micro and listen for the popping to slow to a couple of seconds apart. Comes out fine.

on a few brands of microwaves you can save the time setting of the popcorn button... so its not totally useless .. i used the button all the time i had popcorn.. took a while to get the "prefect" time. so its not all useless..

The last time I used it the bag of popcorn caught fire.
About 5 pieces popped before it happened.

I've never used the button so I don't know what it does.
I just set for 1 minute and 45 seconds... all done.
