Quit smoking with Chantix? Stress relief?

My fiance is getting ready to start taking the prescription Chantix to help him quit.

Has anyone tried it? Does it work? Any side-effects? I don't know much about it and can't find a whole lot of personal opinions.

He has the will power and all, but I'm also just afraid he'll be just a little TOO tempted since he's surrounded by smokers 8 hours a night at work (he works at a steel mill and they are allowed to smoke inside) plus all his friends smoke... a lot.

What can *I* do to help him out? I know, I know, he needs to do it for himself and all, but I still want to be supportive and do what I can...

**I also really what to know what he can do to help relieve his stress. Does the Chantix help with stress at all? Or just cravings? What actually WORKS. I know everyone always suggests stress balls, but personally, they don't do anything at all for my stress... What are things that he can actually do EVERYDAY, not like, get a massage or something like I've seen suggested on Y!A...

Update:

He just turned 22 and he's been smoking about 5 years. He started off light but has been steadily smoking about a pack a day for the last 3 years or so.

(Just in case you'd like to know that information to better answer the question or anything).

I don't know anything about Chantix.

Once nicotine is out of his system for 72 hours, the addiction is gone. After that, it's the habit he's got to correct. Send him here: http://www.msnusers.com/FreedomFromTobaccoQuitSmok...

I quit three years ago (9/24/2004) after smoking for 27 years and that site helped a LOT. I think it was maybe a couple of months when I noticed I had actually gone a day without thinking of smoking. It's HARD, but it's WORTH it. Things taste and smell better and I feel better. Not to mention the $AVING$!

Good luck! To both of you! It's tough, so just be supportive and understand that he may be cranky.

well actually stress balls do work. My cousin recently quit smoking and she had a stress ball with her at all times. She also chewed gum constantly. Not the nicotine stuff but regular gum. It had something to do with keeping herself busy I think. I dunno but it worked. Withdrawl is gonna suck so the tips are for you... be patient on him. He'll be super cranky all the time. Best of luck to him! : )
