Court Wedding?

So I am having a court ceremony, becuase well it is cost efficient for a college student and a new USAF member! I still want to have a decent one, so I am buying a cute dress and he is wearing his Dress Blues...Is there anything else anyone would suggest, as far as a little dinner afterwards...can I still send out invites to some of the people I would like to witness this and not expect gifts (bc i dont want any but will take if given). Also would it be cheesy to have dinner and still have a cutting of a wedding cake?!?

    First of all....congratulations!

Second of all...YES....make it every bit as special as if you were planning a big wedding....nothing saying you can't.

    Ideas:

~ Buy a nice simple dress. It CAN be a long one if you want...or a tea length. Make it white or ivory....why not? If you are in a rush....go to a bridal store and buy one off the rack! All bridal stores are willing to sell some off the rack. They usually also have "clearance" gowns. Look through them!

~ Get a small bouquet or a very simple arrangement of 3 roses with some greens tied with a silk ribbon. Very pretty!

~ Get your groom a boutonniere (if allowed on a military uniform).

~ Most certainly....send out invitations! Why not?

~ Have a dinner reception following. This can be anywhere. Check out a nice restaurant. Most have a private room you can use if you tell them this is a special event. ALL places are willing to work with you to accomodate you....make up a special menu, set up nice centerpieces (or allow you to bring something special in.)

~ Another option would be at someone's home. This is also a very nice idea. Many couples are doing "home" receptions now.

~ AND, yes, there should be "toasts" and a wedding cake!!

Make your day really special. Will you be having a maid of honor? Maybe you and her can go and "primp" by getting your hair done; having a manicure, etc.

I hope your wedding day is special and you have a happy marriage!

We went to a steak house after our wedding. My mom stopped at the grocery store on the way to buy a cake! Most people probably think we were crazy. Maybe we were. I just couldn't see spending tons of money on a big show for wedding. It doesn't matter how much money you spend on your wedding. Your just as married by spening $100 or $100,00. Love is what makes it work not the size of the show!

I had sort of a reception/shower a month later. It was fun we played all the cheesy shower games. We had tons of food and music. Do what ever makes you happy and your budget allows.

No, it's certainly not cheesy to have a dinner with a cutting of the cake. Have as many great wedding traditions as you can afford. And if it's clear that the reason that you are having a scaled-down version of a wedding is because of finances, people might volunteer to help, by buying flowers, offering their lake cabin for a honeymoon, etc. Accept!!

Not cheesy at all, I think it's a great idea. Send out invites, along with a phone call, to the people you want as witnesses and plan for everyone to go to a restaurant to celebrate afterwards. I think the cake is nice too. There is nothing wrong with a little celebration. Have fun!

Lots of people have a court ceremony and then a little reception whether it be dinner at a nice restaraunt or just going to someones house and celebrating with close family and friends. Its your wedding so I say do what makes you happy.

Absolutely. Have a reception after your wedding! To those that you couldn't invite to the wedding... send an announcement to them letting them know that you got married. If you REALLY don't want gifts, specify on the card- "no gifts please." I personally wouldn't :-) Enjoy it! It's your wedding- and hopefully, this'll be the only time you get gifts for such an occasion.

Not at all. Pretty smart if you ask me, to save all that money. It would mean a lot to the families and friends if you invite them for a small party and cake cutting. You can probably rent a room for it at the local Community Center, or YMCA, or maybe a church recreation hall cheap, maybe less than $150.00, with a promise to clean up afterwards.
