Best/Worst Divisions in Football?

by record the best divisions in football are: NFC East at 26-14 and AFC South at 26-14; the worst is not the AFC East (17-23 mainly thanks to NE 10-0) but the NFC West at 15-25.

Top to bottom I have to say the best is AFC South - Indy is hurt right now, but TEN, JAX, and even HOU are all still in the hunt. NFC East is floating above water thanks to weak NFC play and they've all played NYJ and MIA already. DAL is for real, and NYG are a strong WC candidate, but I can't take WAS and PHI for real.

As for the weakest; I go with the NFC West. Sure the AFC East (minus NE) is 7-23; but right now I think NYJ and MIA would both hammer SF. STL is terrible, and even SEA might reach 9-7 with a pretty weak schedule of their own.

Thoughts?

Update:

Note: AFC West is 16-24 and NFC South is 17-23; while the NFC Norris is 23-17, and the AFC North is 20-20.

this should be about more that cumulative records but how the teams are playing........for instance, you mentioned that the NFC East has beat up on the Jets and Dolphins this year but so have just about everyone else that has played them.......for every 07 Pats (thus far) their has to be a bottom feeder and every division (with the exception of the AFC South and maybe the NFC East -jury's still out on Washington) has one.........I think you really have to look at who's playing well right now, win or lose and then sprinkle the W-L records on top of that because as Bill Parcells once said "you are what you are" and 0-10 is pretty damn bad.........

    my opinions -

Best division - AFC South : besides housing the defending SB champs, albeit reeling, it's also home to the 2 wildcard teams in the AFC if the playoffs started today (God, I hate that phrase but it serves purpose here)......you could make a case the NFC East and even the AFC North (if Baltimore could find a consistent offense) but right now the division playing the best collective football is the AFC SOUTH..........

Worst Division - AFC West: rarely in my observations as a fan does the same conference have the best and worst divisions but here's the exception this year.........the AFC West has been mediocore at best and horrible at worst.......when the co-leaders in your division are tied at .500 going into Thanksgiving, something's wrong.......I know the Raider jokes will come out but the problems in this division come from the "co-leaders" I mention in Denver and San Diego.......their collective inconsistency leads me to believe neither is capable of winning 10 games this year......that's how bad it's gotten.........for all the talk about the NFC West and NFC as a whole, at least their division leader has a winning record right now (Seattle, 6-4* albeit by only one game essentially) and as bad as the Rams and Niners records are (combined 4-16), at least they show up to play more often than the Chiefs and Raiders (although the Chiefs get a pass this week for hanging tough against an injury-depleted Colts team on the road)..........

OK the NFC West deserves a little more credit, St. Louis's players just got healthy at QB and RB. They are better then Miami. I think San Fran can beat the Jets. The problem is that the NFC West is still the weakest because they have no strong team. They are a bunch of bottom feeders and Seattle will probably be in the playoffs, because someone has to win the division and go.

As to the best yeah I think the AFC South deserves some love for a change. I think the Texans are still mostly a joke, but the rest make up for it and the Texans are currently even.

If you throw out both best and worst in each division,,,, AFC East is 7-13.... NFC West is tied going this way... and this is the bottom

AFC East is by far the worst,,, they have better record than NFC West but only in the AFC East can it be clinched in week 12...... that is right,, NE clinches division with a win or a Buffalo lossss. that is SAAAAAD

i have to agree with you. NFC east and AFC south are the best and most likely will send out wildcards

the worst would have to be both west divisions..........

  • Best- NFC North Packers, Lions, and Bears are all solid teams this year, and the Vikings are no pushover.

Worst- NFC West- Every team in the division sucks

AFC SOUTH is the best in the afc

NFC EAST is the best in the nfc

    and...

AFC EAST is the worst because besides NE the rest of the teams are like division 3 schools.

    NFC WEST is the worst.

so i could have just agreed with you all together.
