    The Bishops' Conference of England and Wales has approved the following versions of Scripture for use in the Liturgy:

    + Revised Standard Version

    + Jerusalem Bible

    + New Jerusalem Bible

    + New Revised Standard Version

    Many use the Catholic version New English Bible

    There are also the older Douay Reims(Challoner)

    the incomplete Knox Version

    The Jerusalem Bible and other approved Catholic versions of English Bible translations that have the full Bible containing the Deuterocanonicals in the OT.

    I don't know what the Brits suggest but the best English translation of the bible used by the Catholic Church is the Douay-Rheims Bible. You could also do well with a Haydock bible if you like to have the commentary.

    Edit - To C - Of course, the KJV is 100% right on, especially in Isaiah 34.7
