Why is the JFK presidency/era referred to as "Camelot"?

From what I have read, JFK was voted in because of his ties to the mafia, because they threw out many of Nixon's votes in IL, he was a womanizer (along with Bobby), the Kennedy family made their money off of bootlegging during prohibition, he abused amphetamines during his presidency, etc. And his work during his presidency wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. Why is that considered to be Camelot, or ideal? I don't get why the Kennedys are basically American royalty, and then you have presidents like Bill Clinton who are laughed out of office for oral sex. That's nothing compared to what JFK did while he was president!

Was it only because they were good looking and charming? I don't get it, if you have any insight I'm happy to hear it!

Thanks.

I'd like to add that I'm not anti-JFK, and I'm not a republican, I'm just confused and would like to understand it.

Thanks!

The movie camelot came out in 60 or 61 and it described this fairytale kingdom where everything is beautiful until guinevere 's relationship with lancelot turns everything upside down. When Kennedy came into office there was relative quiet ( viet nam was just starting) and everything was cozy until the missle crisis and when he was assinated the story book ended and reality of civil rights, unpopular war set in thus ended camelot. Back then the president's dirty laundry wasn't aired in public, many had affairs like FDR, IKE, Harding ( who was noted to visit the red light district) and nothing came out. It wasn't until Nixon when the press started to print everything that happened with presidents. Ford falling, Carter asking his daughter about nuclear weapons, Reagan and his famous jet black hair at 68. Clinton was vilified because he told the nation " I did not have sex with that woman Monica Lewinsky" and was lying. Earlier presidents would not dream of airing thier laundry in front of the press.

John Kennedy was an inspirational speaker. Young looking , intelligent , and active. His wife was young , beautiful , and charming. They seemed the perfect family. Today we seem to be obsessed with peoples private lives but back then it was a taboo subject. The Kennedy's were adored by millions around the world. Your looking at Camelot from 45 years away and a different perspective. His handling of the Cuban missile crisis alone made him a great president.

only illiterate morons and political neophytes think kennedy was any kind of great speaker. the camelot label has been maintained fy the kenndey sycophants who keep all the other lies about that repulsive family alive. only liberals freaks consider the kennedys to be american royalty, as the real americans despise the very thought of american royalty, and we hate the kennedys even more.anyone who ever saw video of jakie kennedy speaking knows without a doubt what an imbecile SHE was

It's due to something that Jackie Kennedy later said she had regretted for years.

Shortly after the assassination, she mentioned that they had enjoyed the Broadway performance of Camelot, and they liked listening to the album. The reporter she told this to, played it into a "Camelot" presidency, and Mrs. Kennedy and her children have had to live it down ever since.

There was a debate between Nixon and Kennedy. Nixon was sweating and looked ill, but debated the best. Kennedy looked amazing and even though he didn't debate as well, the public believed he won. the Debates become about aesthetics and can win a presidential race.

It is believed Nixon lost because he didn't have th e"camelot" appeal Kennedy had.

Kennedy became into certainly respected via a lot of human beings at his time, the two events alike... apart from the southern states, of direction. the actuality that he became right into a "womanizer" and a (traitor? how?) became into no longer sufficient to taint his administration. no longer basically became into he a president that certainly tried to push for the Civil Rights Act, yet he additionally instituted many courses, like the "New Frontier" for relatives help, issues dealing for the area race, and so on. He even controlled to take administration of the Bay of Pigs invasion. All of those motives and extra are sufficient to love Kennedy. He quite did shape united statesa. for the extra effective, and would have executed extra if he became into in no way assassinated...

JFK was a brilliant and inspiring speaker and his wife Jackie was beautiful, and refined. It was like a price and princess since they both inspired the nation... and the world with their old world and new world charm.

But like you say... who knows what was going on behind the scenes.

And you have to remember that the US was just emerging from a rather dull period with President Eisenhower... although historians are now starting to realize what a great president he was... but he was not young and charming like the Kenedys.
