So how many christians go against the bible's teachings and put up a christmas tree?
"Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. . . . They are altogether brutish and foolish." (Jeremiah 10:2-8)
And please don't tell me it was not specifically referring to christmas!!!!!! ( you know who you are)It obviously wasn't.

yea hon treid that one i showed that to my christian family and they just said if you arent worshipping the tree then it is ok because it is just a decoration. but it says dont even be like those people by doing that. even if you arent worshipping it you are being like the pagans by practicing the same traditions. i became muslim 2 years ago. and i held back but i wanted to say "so i can use a satan symbol or a budda in my house as decoration just because i dont worship it ?" but i controlled myself. noone follows the bible anymore, i am sure most christians have never even saw that verse, my husband is always asked questions about our religion and most of the questions are why dont you eat pork. he responds "same reason you arent supposed to the bible says dont do it the quran says dont do it. " simple.

For all I've read in the Bible, I did not remember this section. Thank you for bringing it up. One thing you missed here, which most unbelievers do, you cannot take the Word of the Lord out of context and just look at one or two lines to reveal the truth. I used to do that when I was not a believer. Search the text for the real meaning. Scripture answers scripture. Look before and look after for meaning. If you are searching for gobblegy - guck - you will find it everywhere throughout the Bible. I know you are searching for something or you would not be IN there!
This passage is not about how we use Christmas trees. It's all about idolatry. These "nations" were idolizing man-made and craven images. NOT GOD! We who set up a Christmas tree are not worshiping the tree - we are remembering the gift of life that God bestowed upon us through the awesome gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Have a wonderful, blessed and Merry Christmas.

You shouldn't be celebrating Christmas, It's against the law.
Ollie Cromwell made it illegal in 1611 and the law has not been recinded. So not only are you a bunch of heathens and hippos you are law breakers.
I would like to take this oppertunity to wish all my readers a Merry Christmas and if you are on the verge of having a child
NAPPY NEW YEAR.

I know you said you did not want an answer that said this was not about Christmas but one should not try to ignore the truth. I know that you are probably a Jehovah Witness or of one of their schismatic sects like the Iglesia ni Cristo or Ang Dating Daan and that this is a major part of your beliefs and practices but the fact is that when Jeremiah wrote this Christ had not yet been born. Obviously, as a result, this cannot be what the verse is referring. Besides as you have already been told this refers to idol worship and I know of no Christians whose practices are to worship a Christmas tree. It is decoration in celebration of our Lord's birth which the Church within the authority given by Jesus celebrates each December. Your interpretation of this verse is called eisegesis and is the worst of hermeneutical methods always leading to false doctrine.
In Christ

Many people may misunderstand the meaning of Jeremiah 10:1-5. Let's explore what the Bible teaches concerning these verses. Please notice verses 3 and 4: "For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter." (NIV)
This Scripture refers to the making of a graven or carved image out of a tree trunk, as shown in verse 5: "Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good."
Later in the chapter false gods that have not made the earth are contrasted with the true God, the Creator (see verses 9-11). Images are vanity, and they shall perish (notice verses 14,15).
The practice or "custom" of making an image from the trunk of a tree is also referred to in Isaiah 40:19,20 and 44:14-17. Both Isaiah and Jeremiah declare the futility and absurdity of making and worshipping idols. Part of the wood is used for fuel and the rest is worship.
These Scriptures have no reference to Christmas trees.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

That Bible quote is in reference to carved idols, not Christmas trees...
Nonetheless, the Christmas tree, the decorations, the yule log, the mistletoe, the feasting etc are all Yuletide/Winter Solstice pagan practices from the North. Nothing to do with Middle Eastern Desert Man/Gods being born.
But, you gave them an 'out' by quoting something out of context, tsk....now they'll avoid answering the whole hypocrisy of Christians celebrating Yuletide and calling it 'Christmas'.

ya... but the passage is talking about worshiping idols that they created: "They are all senseless and foolish;
they are taught by worthless wooden idols."
Christians (or anyone for that matter, I don't think you have to be christian to put one up) who put up Christmas trees because it is fun and looks festive are not worshiping the tree. I don;t think you will find any christian who thinks christmas trees are part of their religion or anything.... it is just for fun.
taking that verse 100% litteraly with no context would imply that you can't build anything out of wood and decorate it..... that would be a pretty drab little world

Jesus was crusified on a tree so what is wrong with a christmas tree at christmas, its like eating meat that is sacrificed to idols. 1 corinthians 8.
Well man sinned first with a tree:
Genesis 2:17
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Then Jesus died on the tree:
Galatians 3:13
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
Other tree verses:
Psalm 1:3
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Psalm 52:8
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever.
Psalm 104:17
There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees.
Proverbs 3:18
She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise

It's a lot less bad than the Christians who'll have sex before marriage(most of them!) & those who'll think less of(or utterly despise in some cases) those from other faiths, races & cultures when the bible wants us to love each other! If Jesus moved in next door to them how many 'Christians' would think-'Huh-another bloody immigrant!'
