Did you have a shortage of plug-ins and have cords coming down from the light fixture in the ceiling?

The old houses were lucky if they had 1 outlet per room and we had that plug in by the light bulb in the ceiling with extension cords hanging all over?

Update:

Talking about the old farm houses when I was a kid. Most older trailers do not have ceiling lights even.

Update 2:

We too were poor but we always had electricity. jan g

All the different things you have mention today even like the wash tub bring back a lot or memories, we had 12 kids in our family and we were very poor, I didn't know other people lived life that way . One place we live in didn't even have electricity at all so when we moved to the house with all the plugs hanging from the ceiling we thought we were right up there with Jones

    LOL

We live in the house my husbands parents bought in the 60's(built in 1906)....we still have those outlets above the lights in some rooms! About half of the rooms have an outlet and the others don't......

How funny you should think about something like that!

When I moved to Wisconsin, I had to buy a bunch of adaptors because most of the outlets in every room were only for two prong adaptors. Shows how old the places are.

We were okay but only 1-2 outlets per room. we had many kinfolks who lived as you say with a bare bulb and cords run when needed.

My grandma had one light in the house, she told family electricity was just a fad and would not last and no need to spend money on for useless nonsense

Never heard of a such a thing. Is it a house, even my garage has plugs all over the place. Sounds like there is more than just that wrong with the place.

Only in my Mom's sewing room...you had to be careful that you didn't iron and sew at the same time...that would burn the fuse out (and then flip the breaker switch) every time!!

Nope- we had enough outlets, except in the bathrooms back in the day.

No, do you? Maybe if I lived in the woods in a home made shack. Run a line from accross the street. Hillbilly style. Or maybe a house trailer in one of those trailer parks!
