When I try to play a video I get a black screen but the sound works?
I have tried playing multiple videos with multiple players. I tried VLC, Media Player Classic, WMP, and the Nero player. They all show a black screen but the sound works. What could be the problem? I only have one monitor hooked up and I disabled the other one.
TV not computer. It's definitely not a codec because I just played the videos like 2 hours ago, and now for some reason they don't work.
They were avi files.
Hmm, Now the VLC name has mysteriously changed to "Set video mode to OpenGL". Anyone know how to do that :D?

First go to VLC player and go to tools and or help and update the codecs and you can do that for each one of your players, also check properties of the file you are trying view and see what file type it is then download the codec next and last get real player its free and it works make sure you update the program before you play it!
Okay if it is asking you to set open gl then say yes to it and see if that works the other thing is what kind of connectors do you have for the TV monitor is it VGA or DVI connector
and the last thing what kind of Video card do you have is it AGP or PCI Inhanced or on board Video?

Install the latest version of the Flash player plug-in. Click the black screen. It should ask you if you want to download Flash.

You probably don't have the right codec for the video, try downloading a DivX pack or something.

you might not have the right codec for the video
check on google for the latest codec for the software that you use to play the video

ok well let me help you. A lot of times (happened to me) the wires you plug into the tv are audio (sound) video (the picture) wich you seem to have trouble with the picture. alot of times the wires get a little shorted out (nothing to worry about!) your audio is fine! so you need to wigle the video wire around intill it shows up then keep it in the position. now when it happend for me i had to prop it up to see the picture. now i stuck a protractor under it to keep it proped up. so to summerize it all up. wiggle the video wire around intill you get the picture to show up and try to set it down with the picture showing up. if it doesn't stick something under it.
