I just cant get into christmas any more....what is wrong with me?
I used to love christmas time. It was my favourite time of year but now I cant get into it. It just all seems so tacky and just a big commercial crapfest. How do I rediscover the magic?
I think it is maybe a money thing.....but still, I miss the magic.

I have been in the same position before and then I would stop and realize that this is the happiest time of the year and that if I let myself lose the Christmas spirit, I could easily bring somebody else down and take the chance of missing the whole season and what it's all about. I think we lose the magic as we grow older but it doesn't have to be about the money and we can really capture the magic back. Help out a needy family or donate a toy to a donation barrell, decorate or help someone else decorate, listen to holiday music. What may seem small to you could mean something big to somebody else in need. You'll be surprised that just by doing a lot of little things can bring the holiday spirit back. I make tons of cookies and give them away and that makes me feel merry and cheery. Even sending Christmas cards can help. Good luck.

It is hard. I have to force myself every year. Once the job of getting the tree decorated is over, I finally start getting in the mood.
Of course I don't do much shopping around this time of year, if I need gifts, I try to get all of that done earlier in the year. I am usually finished, (all but 2or 3) by the first week of November.
I watch for sales, and such throughout the year. There are certain things that you just know will be the perfect gift. A few need to wait until you get more info, but if the rest is done, it makes life a lot more pleasant.

Christmas has become very commercialized. It's sad. The real reason for Christmas seems to be forgotten (thankfully, not by all). With that said, the radio station I listen to has Christmas music on 24/7 and it started 11/16 (coincided with Disneyland's Christmas season opening - we live near Disneyland). I LOVE Christmas music, it always puts me in a good mood and in the mood for Christmas and all the fun and hassles that come with it. Get out your favorite Christmas CDs and play them all the time. It will cheer you up, really.
Best wishes to you, and Merry Christmas.

this isn't really an answer to your question, but I totally agree with you. Anymore, it's all about money money money. Things were much simpler when we were young, and I would give anything to still believe in a santa clause. I especially get annoyed when stores and stuff start selling christmas stuff on or before Halloween even. If I could be president, I'd make it a law that anything related to christmas. albeit it selling items, decorating, singing/playing music, etc... come no sooner than thanksgiving, and be gone no later than new years day.

Don't let all the tacky commercials, and Ebenezer Scrooge's ruin it for you. Just let everything you like about Christmas shine through and try your best to block out all the things that have changed and the things you don't like.

Nothing is wrong. True, commercialism has taken control and now people think it is necessary to buy, buy, buy. I like this time of year, I like the Yule tide events that take place. Giving and receiving in a non-chritian sense becomes a process of letting others know you care. I try not to give extravagant gifts, but small gifts that have meaning to the person I give them to.

Really get into the spirit of giving. Find needy people and if you don't have money offer your time or services. The joy of Christmas is in giving.
