Cotton yellowed with age: How do I remove it?

A friend sewed a 100 % cotton nightgown and stored it for some months. The cotton yellowed over time and now she cannot wash or bleach this out. Anyone know how to get it white again?

Try Oxi-Clean. It may remove the yellow. Soak it in the Oxi-clean bath for a couple of hours. This comes in a spray bottle which I also use, but the powder would be better for this situation. You can get it at most grocery stores as well as Wal-Mart.

Try a blueing agent. They sell it at supermarkets in the laundry section. Also, Rite Dye makes a whitener.

Oxy-Clean should do it. If not, try some bluing, but be sure to follow the directions exactly -- unless you want the nighgown to be blue rippled.
