Why the big deal about Romney's religion?

I hear so much about Mitt Romney being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons), but I've not heard what church the other canadates go to. Why? Can you tell me where Clinton, Obama, Giuliani, or any of the others go?

I do know one other. Mike Huckabee is a Southern Baptist.

Clinton is Methodist, Obama goes to United Trinity Church of Christ, and Giuliani is Catholic. I don't know what is the big deal about Romney's faith. I think is just that people have never seen a Mormon running for office besides Orrin Hatch. People are just curious about non-Protestant faiths.

It's because he's NOT Protestant. If one of the candidates was Catholic we'd probably hear about that too. I remember hearing about that with John Kerry. Many Protestant churches believe that the Mormon church is in fact a cult. They also believe that about Jehovah's Witnesses (who I don't think vote so I doubt one would ever run for President). We've never had a Mormon, woman, or minority as President so that's newsworthy I suppose, and that is why it's a big deal; because it's not main stream.

the U. S. occurs to be between the main severe religious fundamentalist international places interior the international. Christian fundamentalist of direction, no longer Muslim. Extremist fundamentalist faith would perhaps have an more suitable carry interior the U.S. on the regular public than say in Iran, nevertheless I’ve under no circumstances considered a poll in Iran. yet I doubt 50 p.c. of the inhabitants in Iran thinks the international became created 6,000 years in the past precisely the way it fairly is now. it truly is fairly unusual with the aid of fact some time past in American historic previous to the time of the colonists, there have been eras of religious revivalism. maximum at present we see this interior the Fifties, which became a huge era of religious revivalism. That’s how we get words like “In God We have faith” and “One united states of america decrease than God.” religious revivalism picked up returned in modern-day times and that's now a huge tension.

If Romney holds the right positions on topics of vital importance to America today, IE: Illegal immigration, Prosecuting the War on Terror, Protecting the Homeland, Foriegn Policy on Iran and other Terrorist States, Domestic Spending, Crime, Upholding the Constitutional Values of America, the Economy...and of course...Taxation....

Id say I could care less if he worships the Gods of Uranus as long as he has proven consistant on those issues in the past in some manner, and holds true to his principals... He may have my vote... Mormon or no Mormon.

Even though Im undecided at the moment.

The right man for the job should win... regardless of his religion.

I don't see how anything Mormons believe is any more bizarre and unbelievable that regular old Christianity. But many Christian Fundamentalists consider Mormonism a cult,so I guess that's part of the issue.

Truth is I find Mormons to be very misunderstood,as I said none of their beliefs are any weirder than Christianity,Judaism or Islam in reality. And they usually seem to be pretty upstanding people, boring and bland but still decent.

I'm guessing they'd all belong to the Universal Church of the Almighty Dollar.

First thing you need to learn is that no one has a problem with his religion. They have a problem because he is a Republican, so they have to find something semi-legitimate to blast him on. You will never hear anyone question Hillary's religion - you will never hear anyone ask Democrats any difficult questions because the media that they choose to talk to are mostly liberal bias.

Nobody cares about his religion. Its his well documented record of flip flopping to suit his constituency. He was pro choice when he wanted to be governor of mostly liberal Massachusettes. Less than two years later he is conveniently pro-life just in time for the republican nomination. You can be one or the other. But nobody wants a chameleon for President.

But they did not mind having Carter (Democrat) who was a former Baptist preacher.

it is the ONLY thing that Mitt has that people can bring up. Which in reality is a plus for him on values etc.

Mitt is the BEST Presidential candidate, period. They have to find something to sway the people.
