rebuilt engine for kia sportage should cost what?

Dump it and buy a new one...it's time

Most likely it was the missing gas cap that did it. The gas cap has to be tightened until you hear at least one click. Otherwise the check engine light will turn on because the computer calculates that the pressure is incorrect. You can take your car to Auto Zone and have it checked there for free - they'll use a handheld code reader and connect it to your car's computer. After they check the problem code(s), they can reset the codes and turn off the check engine light with their code reader if you ask them to. Otherwise you can drive around, and the light should disappear within 3 to 14 days if the gas cap was the problem. Or you can disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. That will get rid of the light. But it will come back on later if the problem hasn't been fixed. Also, your radio may be disabled if you disconnect the battery. If this is the case, you need to enter a security code into the radio.

Get a new car. Once you pay the cash for the motor and the labor to install, you could have put a good amount down on a new car. Your car is already 7 years old. The new KIA is under $13,000 and comes with a very impressive warranty.

wow that is expensive , I'm not sure how much it will cost but i believe that was how much mine was going to cost but I just got a 1999 KIA sportage for only $3,000 so I would not go out and have the motor rebuilt just get another vehicle

Thats about right.Dont buy a kia next time.If you punch in dont buy a kia into your pc,they will tell you all the horror stories.
