Do you have a favorite Bible passage, one you come back to over and over?

The Bible affects my thinking profoundly and certain quotes people say are so deep I think about them repeatedly. Do you have something you "meditate" on?

Jeremiah 29:11 means a lot to me, it says "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, "Plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope."

I admire a quote from a missionary, Jim Elliot, killed by stone-age tribesmen, with 4 other men when he tried to make the first ever contact with them.Years before he had said, "HE IS NO FOOL WHO GIVES WHAT HE CANNOT KEEP TO GAIN WHAT HE CANNOT LOSE". He spoke of entrusting his life to God here/now, in exchange for an eternal life with God after death. His wife & sister befriended their killers and told them about God's love. This people's entire culture was based on warfare/killing and the murder rate was 50% of all men/women & children! "Through Gates of Splendor" is the biography of these events. Their commitment to God/God's love amazes & challenges me still!!

Update:

Runic, it means that faith, hope and love are eternal, they never end. These are great verses. Try putting the word God where love is and you will oneday maybe be a Christian. God is love, God is patient, God is kind..... This describes Him so well. Thank you for your answer!

Update 2:

Thank you for sharing what matters to you. These are great encouraging verses. I appreciate all you taking time to answer, even you who are don't have a favorite verse to share!

Update 3:

Runic, I was quoting from the Bible. I think it means God's kind of love "never fails". I'm sorry for the failures of love that hurt and discouraged you.

So glad to see you ask this WONDERFUL Q :) Thanks for the Jeremiah quote!

This was a hard one to answer - because I have many many that I meditate (thanks for using that word) on, depending upon what's going on in and around me, and what I am led to study on. These are also pretty typical for most long-term believers, I'm sure, but they are what works for me.

    >All the RED print in the New Testament (Jesus' teachings' especially the 'Golden Rule' and the whole book of John especially 8:31-32, 10:17-18, 11:25-26)

    >Old Testament: Proverbs 22 has been my guide for years

    >Old Testament: Psalm 23 carried me through my childhood and into young adulthood.

    >OT: Psalm 91 especially verse 1. I carry in my heart, it sings to me, and helps me remember where I live, especially when the world events beg me to forget.

    >OT: The Book of JOB (only in recent years) - when I feel really sorry for myself and think I've got it bad

    >NT - New Testament: Hebrews 11:1 - is how I cement my faith - it's a recurring theme I teach around

But two I share with you on Answers (one from my head and one I just got the 'nudge' from that 'still small voice' to share)

One has helped me hold my sanity when all about me are losing theirs:

2Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

And closing with this one which was just laid upon my heart (and seems to be in synch with your Jeremiah quote)

    Paul speaks to the

Philippians 4:8-9 - Finally, bretheren, whatsoever things--true, whatsoever things--honest, whatsoever things--just, whatsoever things--pure, whatsoever things--lovely, whatsoever things--of good report, if--virtue, and if--any praise, think on these things. These things which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you.

I know this was long-winded. I feel it's just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks again for the Q. :)

I'm not christian, but I do love 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things

Edit: I also like the one a few verses down that says... Love, hope, faith abide these three, but the greatest of these is love. ...I guess that means that love is more important than faith, or that love is the most important part of faith...huh.

Edit again: I'm sorry, but I beg to differ, love, faith and hope can end. Have you ever loved somebody, and then stopped loving them? I have, and most people have as well. I once was Christian, it didnt work out, but I still have some respect for the faith. Have a nice night :-)

My mind often finds it's self pondering Psalm 121. It brings me comfort. In fact my eyes often traverse all 15 Psalms of Ascents (120-134) But one passage in particular from Hosea never fails to make me love God more. God says.

7 My people are determined to turn from me.

Even if they call to the Most High,

he will by no means exalt them.

8 "How can I give you up, Ephraim?

How can I hand you over, Israel?

How can I treat you like Admah?

How can I make you like Zeboiim?

    My heart is changed within me;

    all my compassion is aroused.

9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,

nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim.

For I am God, and not man—

    the Holy One among you.

I will not come in wrath. [c]

He is holy and doesn't discipline out of anger. even when I mess up, He shows his grace and love. Because I trust in him, I know that he is someone I can turn to, and not run away from, when I do wrong.

I keep this at the top of my prayer list.

Deuteronomy 3:24 O Lord God, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand. For there is none beside you in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours.

That verse from Jeremiah 29 is one of my favorites along with Psalms 123. It comes to me everytime I am feeling weak for any reason.

Thanks for visiting my mail and asking, Leslie Anne!

Yes I do have not only a favorite Bible passage, but my daily shield. On or before I start the engine of my car, it is my comfort and confidence, my assurance that the Word shall protect me along the way, and way back home safely. And with God amazing Grace and mercy...for almost 22 years of personal driving... He protects me with His sacred angels in-charge of my safety...and sometimes with my love ones with me...

It also serves as my prayerful little murmur to guide and protect my wife and my professional children as my eyes guide them in their way out of our home door either to work or anything....and I BELIEVE that God shall protect THEM all the way safely back home....TRULY IN DEED.

In the Project sites...with construction workers and staff, this Chapter prayer from the Bible is very Powerful...no accident...the project runs smoothly and completes harmoniously and even I remember there was the 1991 strong earthquake of high intensity that swayed my high rise condominium project...(F. Florentino St, Sta Cruz, Manila, Philippines) all my men where safe...and the project suffered no damage... still strong and standing...fully occupied till present.

When my two technical sons left for work now still in Dubai, a civil, engineer supervised the concreting of the tallest building, and the architect in Doha Qatar, my simple prayer from this Bible verses filled my heart with complete confidence...for God is with them and their sacred angels on guard....24/7...surely!!!

LeslieAnne....PSALM 91, MY LORD IS MY PROTECTOR....faileth not me....my love ones...and people around me....thanks for the Q & your visit. Bye for now.

    YES!

" When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me." - Emo Phillips

"...I will never leave you, nor forsake you; therefore I can boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear what man can do to me" (Hebrews 13:5b,6). Trials develop godly character. "...we exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character, and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us...
