Is fair trade coffee?

Is fair trade coffee the dregs that they sweep up after they have filled the Nescafe jars? That's what it tastes like to me.

Quite an issue this. I am sure there are people like me who would like to support the scheme to ensure the producers get a fair return and are not exploited. The problem I have found like others that have replied is that most of the stuff under the Fair Trade label is bloody awful. The coffee and wine are the worst but the chocolate doesn't do much better. I refuse to pay a premium price for c*** so, I'm out!

I bought the stuff once....not so good.

I was disappointed because I thought I was going to do some good too. I don't see why fair trade coffee can't taste as good as any other type of arabica beans.

I know what you mean but the whole concept is slowly gaining support from the industry and in around three years it should stop tasting like cardboard oatmeal mix. Until then it's lavazza and arabica beans for me...
