Anything that makes a kid use their imagination is one of the greatest gifts ever given.

We used the boxes from a frig and stove, fastened them together and cut holes in it for windows and doors. Use markers, etc. and decorated it up.

Our kids had many days and weeks of fun in their "house". They could write on it and put stickers on it and no one told them NO.

I think you answered it yourself when you said what fun you had. As long as the present was given from the heart and the recipient enjoyed it, it's a great present!
