My black Lab has dry itchy skin. What can I do to help him?
He gets a Fish Oil capsule daily and a doggie multi vitmun. Should I give him anything else? He has been eating the same dog food for 10 years, so no changes there.

A fish oil capsule is not enough, as Labradors are big dogs. Give him a tablespoon of cod liver oil or coconut oil daily. Both are also very good for humans, by the way. You will both also benefit from a spoonful of vitamin B complex. Some of the ingredients in the food formula you are giving him could have changed in the past 10 years, so do not take it for granted that it is still the same. Just for safety's sake, take him to a vet to check if he has not picked up demodectic mange.

may be time to change.
Look at the label and see if the food has soy or wheat. Most labs have an allergy to wheat and/or soy. Also corn is really hard on the digestive tract of older dogs, and if you have been feeding the same for ten years, your dog is a senior just like mine.
My ol' man was on beneful for a long time till he started to get flaky skin that turned to hot spots and fur loss. Then he started chewing his feet. He was getting flaxseed oil and fish oil every day. All it was doing was making his poo runny.
I switched him to Canidae All Life Stages, and it was such a turn around . He grew his fur back and everything.
Now he is on a homemade raw diet and doing great for a year now.
I strongly recommend Canidae. It is wonderful. Another option is Nature's Variety raw instinct. There are some great dog foods out there that have no wheat soy or corn.
I would try that before i went to the vet and they gave him injections for itching and what not.
Hope this helps.

Although your Lab has been eating the same food for 10 years, it could still be a food allergy that's causing his problem. Although most people think dogs develop dog food allergies in response to a change in diet, it usually the total opposite. A dog will most likely develop an allergy to a food that he's been eating for a long time, not to a new one.
I would try to change his food to one that is specifically designed for dogs with allergy problems or food sensitivities. You can find a good selection here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-food-allerg...
You'll need to give it a few weeks to see how much difference the change in diet makes, meantime there are several products you can use to make him less itchy, and more comfortable. Several contain hydrocortisone which relieves the inflammation and itching. See some examples of the best ones here http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/canine-skin-all...
Best of luck, hope he's doing better soon.

Typically, skin conditions such as eczema have to do with poor dieting. Learn here https://tr.im/AC2Ff
Eczema food triggers such as eggs, fish, peanuts, and soy are known to help reduce flare-ups, but this can vary from person to person. These foods may also exacerbate eczema because many people cannot properly digest the proteins, which causes an allergic reaction.

It could be a skin irritation. Try washing him with medicated shampoo, try to find a shampoo that says medicated for itchy skin and try to find one that is with oatmeal, if that doesn't really do anything go to your vet and he might give you some ointment. I hope this helps

If your dog is over 10, he may need a change in his diet. And further more, the dog food may be the same brand, but that doesn't mean the formula hasn't changed. Sometimes linitone will work, but maybe he has an allergic dermatitis. I would ask your vet.
