Will the Democratic Party learn anything from Liebermans endorsement of McCain?

The Democrats thought highly enough of Lieberman to make him their VP candidate in 2000. Now he has endorsed McCain for President. Will they now try to discredit him and claim he's an extremist or will they realize the party has gone too far to the left and is losing support?

Lieberman is irrelevant. This endorsement is just further evidence of that. McCain lost his frontrunner status a year ago and has not moved significantly in any polls since. This is just the latest sinking ship that Lieberman is egotistical enough to think he can save.

The only reason Lieberman has left the Democratic party is because he values his heritage above his party; And like so many misguided jews, He has somehow bought into the idea that the Iraq war is good for Israel's security. (Fail to understand how when it has only destabilized a neighbor and aggravated tensions throughout the region; But whatever...) As a Democrat, I have felt it to be no big loss for several reasons - Foremost because I consider myself to be AN AMERICAN first. I may have German and British ancestry but I have always considered myself to be an American and what's going on in Europe has VERY rarely been a major factor - And almost never a determining one - In the policies I've concluded to be best for my country over the years. Another reason I don't mourn Lieberman's abandonment of our party is; Again frankly, the relevancy issue. This guy did not bring enough to the table as a VP candidate to get the win; He couldn't get double digit support in any primaries trying to advance his own Presidential aspirations; And now he has thrown his weight behind another old news candidate (McCain).

So let Lieberman endorse McCain. I will not cry 'extremist' I will only say 'So what?!' I do not believe the grandstanding of the Joe Lieberman and Zell Millers of the world are what most voters will be looking for in this election. Might have once been; But I hope by now, most will be looking for what I am - A calmer voice to gently guide us back to; If not national unity, At least national sanity.

The Democrats will attack him because they answer to MoveOn.org and the like. I can understand if anti-war people disagree with his positions, but the Democrats are treating him so badly it's a wonder why he doesn't defect. Ron Paul is the GOP's counterpart to Lieberman: he may be frustrating the hawkish majority in the party, but you don't see the GOP running challengers against him in a primary for his congressional seat because of pressure from right-wing special interests, do you?

Nope, cause they supported a more liberal democrat for his job, and then Lieberman got smart and went independent, and beat the guy.

I think Lieberman could have done better running for President instead of VP. Man is much more middle of the road compared to all the democrat front runners and the republican far right.

what they need to learn from the whole mess is to check to see if a national candidate is actually a democrat at all-lieberman lost more votes for gore than anything else, with his whining and droning and lack of energy...and as soon as the election was over he ran whimpering to dubya's feet and has been licking his boots ever since! why should anyone be surprised that lieberman would endorse a republican from the 'what a wonderful war' wing of the party?

McCain and Lieberman are both moderates. No big surprise for either party there.

McCain is a maverick purely in his very own suggestions. A maverick would not vote alongside social gathering lines 95% of the time. A maverick would not turn flop on purely approximately each and every person of his considerable positions. A maverick would not settle for being compelled to desert his first decision of vice chairman (Lieberman) by fact of social gathering rigidity and threats. McCain is an previous guy on his final political legs and he will say and do something he thinks he desires to with the intention to develop into the POTUS. Lieberman is lifeless meat on the two area. He has shown his actual hues and are available his next election he gets no help from the Democrats nor from the GOP.

No. If they were capable of learning anything they'd be independents.

    They will blast him again

He was the only shred of integrity the DNC had.
