I have found a hidden talent I never knew I had. I am able to embrace and encourage this new talent within myself whenever I begin a session in Yahoo!Answers. I have a better opinion of my tolerance for others and the opinions that we all have. I am amazed at the amount of empathy within me that I never knew was there. I am astounded by the over abundance of all the different things that I know absolutely NOTHING ABOUT!! This makes me humble and open to new ideas and concepts, giving me a better outlook on the world around me every time I log onto this site. I am confident of my writing abilities and my delivery of a thought or idea to others in a manner that is easily understood and entertaining to read. I use this new self confidence in my every day life, and have found myself engaging with my peers alot more and seeking out more conversations with strangers without my old reservations. I am a good person who can be honest when asked my opinion, when I used to be a passive aggressive, yes man, who feared conflict ,and worse, feared criticism from others. Now, I engage in healthy conflict and resolution without all the insecurity I used to have. This site offers advise, validation, and even cold hard truth, when no one else in your life can. I enjoy the safety this site ensures when you are practicing the act of being blatantly honest to perfect strangers, allowing you to let down your guard and truly explore your inner thoughts and express them, out loud, and sharing those thoughts with other people, sometimes for the very first time. I could then discover how small I am, yet how valued my small little opinion can be. This gave me insight into my stability in my relationships intimately and superfluously . Whenever I am stumped as to what to do, or how to act,or what to say...i just log onto this site and release my inhibitions and air out confusing stresses. Thank you, for all of my new discoveries about me, about the people of this world, and about the power of knowledge.

Are you aware that you are violating your own community guidelines by "chatting" ? And are you aware that one answerer says that she is in fifth grade ? There isn't any possible way that she is 13 unless she has failed at least 2 or 3 grades.
I think that it should be made impossible for a person to have multiple accounts - and something definitely needs to be done about the troll situation. Just yesterday alone, there was one person who had 3 identities going at the same time - spewing forth their vile, prejudiced talk. All it takes is a small difference in the spacing and a person can have 2 or 3 accounts with the same name and avatar. Nothing the computer will catch, and nothing that will loook any different when it actually makes it under the avatar. You have lost many good, decent posters because of the trolls and their evil ways. 70,000+ points - shouldn't that be a hint to you that something is fishy? Also top contributers - reported into oblivion because of a few nasty people. There has to be some way to block a person by their ISP instead of just their yahoo account - it's too easy for them to create a new one and start their nastiness all over
I also feel that some leeway should be given in the Seniors section - a lot of us are shut-ins and need some humor to get us through the day. Plus - isn't there some way you can put a block on anyone under maybe 21 -- we get some really smart aleck answers from the kids - some of whom readily admit that they are not 13.
You also need to do away with the thumbs up - down feature - too many people abuse it too
these are just my opinions and recommendations -

It's a great pastime. I am usually on the senior citizen site. For quite some time now people have been reporting questions and answers for no good reason other than to be hateful. None of these violate the community guidelines. Many users have left the site because of this. Some human, not a computer needs to take a look at this constant reporting. They are ruining an excellent site. I spend many hours a day here. I am alone and like to read and answer the questions. I read the answers. I have learned quite a bit. If this site is deserted by the seniors who are being harassed then there will no longer be a site I care to spend much time in.

Congratulations.
@YA I have found a fantastic outlet for my political zeal and utilize the format daily. For me it has enhanced my desires for more research and convictions during an election season. So the timing could not have been better.
I have found some of the glitches in the editing network to be a cause of concern. I've watched many things change in my almost a year here. Also a worry are the violation notices that became a way of life for many. Suspensions?
Some of the drama has been in the way. Censorship. I have found more changes lately in my foreign newspaper references. I am a very outspoken person against electing Senator Clinton as President. Many things get removed or deleted there as well. I was upset to learn that Chinese individuals were jailed after Yahoo exchanged internet logs. Now I know FISA does not cover on line communications. So even my data is subject to retrival if warranted. Up to one year I understand. These things worry me. PLUS Mozilla Firefox seems to be at war with this browser and has impacted my life greatly in a negative way.
Thank you for keeping the format open. I have tried a few and like this the best for political Q& A I do not use 360 at all.
Aloha. Kimberly

I became a regular on Yahoo Answers on December 30,2005. Actually, there was a much more mature crowd back then. Now there are nothing but a lot of racing hormones on this site. I would think, that the Yahoo Committee would be able to clean up some of the stuff, that is said on here. I'm sure that when people come across my answer, that I will recieve plenty of "Thumbs-Downs". I usually do,when I tell the truth,or submit an answer, that I KNOW is correct. Only people who want the truth give me the "Thumbs-UP". So to answer your question?. No! YA really did'nt make an impact on my life. Maybe for the younger generation, but not me!

In every aspect.
I'm a middle schooler and a new pet owner and there are so many things i need help with. I am addicted to Yahoo! Answers! I always come here for help. How to open a pomagranette. How to get my new guinea pig to be more friendly with me. What to ask for as far as Christmas goes. How to make poperie. How to launch my babysitting career. What to name my new band. What sort of websites should I use for a web-page add-on? How to deal with my angry ex boyfriend!? Well, I think you get the point.
What I Love About Yahoo! Answers:
There are so many different people that know so many different things.
You ALWAYS get multiple answers. I have gotten about twenty answers for an AVERAGE question.
You can see the different aspects and view-points people have in dealing with certain situations.
You learn when you answer other's questions, too! You get a lot wiser when you find Yahoo! answers. I'm not kidding. When a problem arises in life, you know there's a way. There's always a way!
Simple and straight out: When I want or need something, I can get it....
with the click of a mouse.
To all those people who say Yahoo! Answers has no impact, which are few people I may add, you just haven't experienced the magic yet.
Yahoo! Answers has impacted my life to the extent that I would probably be dead right now if I hadn't asked this one question. I was in a deep depression and getting ready to take a full bottle of pills - it just so happened that I asked - it could be on this account or my old account, I can't remember - two questions. 1.) How religion has affected young people. 2.)How many pills you have to take to die.
And I'm still alive - happier than ever!

I've learned a lot about myself and other people on Yahoo! Answers. There are so many times that I've felt like I'm the only one in a certain situation or feeling a certain way, but I've been proved wrong just by looking at the questions and answers on this website. The Y!A community really is like a family. It's so amazing to see complete strangers help other people just by answering their questions. It really is a learning experience for everyone here. The best part is that you don't have to be afraid to be yourself because no one you know in person will judge you - you have people who are just like you who support you 100%, and that can really make a difference for someone who doesn't have much support in their life. There are so many wonderful experiences that I've had with Y!A, it's hard to know where to start. Yahoo! Answers has helped me help other people, whether they be a few miles away or across the globe. It's an amazing feeling to know that you could be making a huge impact in someone's life just by answering a simple question.

Without doubt, Yahoo!Answers has certainly made a difference in my life. I have learned more than I ever thought I could, would or should, including a few things that a person my age (67) never even existed (if you catch my drift).
Previous to Y!A I thought of myself as a self-taught computer person (which I am) and a fairly decent Googler. I had *no* idea in this world where Google could lead me. My very first question, in 2006, was simply asking about a Merriam Webster crossword puzzle I was trying to solve. The clue was "What is the world's tartest fruit?" Having led quite a sheltered life (home to nunnery to a wonderful marriage after a 17 day courtship), I was not aware of some of the answers that appeared for both "tartest" and "fruit" LOL! I nearly fell off my chair!
Now nothing fazes me, unless it is an extremely filthy answer or avatar. A few days ago I reported one who had both: a filthy answer and a filthy avatar. To my amazement, the next day I received notice that this person wanted to be on my contact list! I looked at the person's profile and, to my great amusement, he/she had already been kicked off! I still wonder why the person wanted to be *my* contact. I do not hide the fact that I am a 67 years young woman (I will be *old* only if and when I decide, thank you), I am surprised that many of my Best Answers have been straight off the top of my head--having raised two adult sons--and I got a real kick out of being the only one who found the album which shows four young boys peeing on the front! (That one took me a *very* long time, you may be sure!)
My two pet peeves about Y!A are text writing (longtime teacher here LOL!) and one that is of my own making. I get very frustrated when I spend a long time researching an answer, only to find that I can't find the question again! I have solved my problem however, by clicking "Answer this Question" *before* I set out on my hunt.
Do I need to say that I really love Y!A and the part it now takes in my life? It has enriched my knowledge greatly (even with some "ahems") and it has opened my eyes to evwery so many things that I never knew.
I still will *not* answer a math or physics problem--yikes! They fly right over my head!
Thank you for listening to my long diatribe. As I tell DH, I have so many years of utter silence to make up for <wink>!
Sincerely and without wax,
ranunculusviridis
PS: I had to modify because I spelled my own ID wrong! How "duh!" is that?

When Yahoo!Answers started up, I lived in a very isolated area, 35 miles from the nearest town. I found myself gaining weight that winter and wanted to get some diet tips so I posted a question that changed my life. All I asked for was a little diet advice, and someone kindly wrote that they recommended a website [Sparkpeople.com] that would help me on my weight loss journey.
Two years later, I have to say, blushingly, that I have the body of someone 20 years younger and I get compliments almost daily. Men actually compliment the muscle definition in my arms, and a personal trainer told my husband I should wear shorts to the gym every day, as my legs were "great." Never mind the fact that I am the grandmother of 5! No one ever guesses that I was a bit out of shape 2 years ago and losing hope fast!
Whoever said "Knowledge is power" understood the power of the internet and Yahoo!Answers is the place to turn, whether you live in-the-middle-of nowhere, Texas or the big city.
Thank you YAHOO!
