Can a DNA sample taken from saliva determine sex?
For example if a DNA sample was taken from a bite out of a piece of food could that sample determine the sex of the person?

One of the standard marked looked at in a CODIS analysis in DNA fingerprinting is X or Y specific.

No. The sample might be contaminated or too small.

Yes I think it can. Our DNA has the xy xx thing in it and that tells us if it's a boy or girl..

The saliva would need to contain cells for karyotyping.
I only interject because someone mentioned "YY" and "XY." Close, but not quite XX = female and XY = male.
YY=dead.

Maybe not food but spit or saliva most defently! And remember every parent can tell a doctor to take a test on the chil and by law they will find out and arrest you if your uderage. (not sayng it's you)

yes, we get somtic cell from saliva which contains whole genome. 22 pairs of somatic chromosomes + 1 pair of sex chromosome {(XY- in males) or (XX- in females)}
