Why doesn't Jeff Gordon enter the Chili Bowl?

If he's as good as Tony Stewart, he should have a good shot at the win, right? Looking through the entry list for the race coming up in January shows only two drivers officially from NC. That seems odd to me also.

Hey Sphinx....TS has a stake in my home track too....Macon Speedway, in Macon, IL.

To answer the Q......I don't think he is anywhere near as good as he used to be....as you stated in another Q......and he knows it. Stewart and Kahne would hand his *** back to him in a midget.

Stewart is still an active dirt driver and races in many places as a promotional tool as he is a partial owner of a fair number of tracks. In fact he has a piece of my local track, Cedar Lake Speedway and you can count on a sellout everytime he shows.

Gordon on the other hand no longer competes on dirt unless you count the charity style event put on by Smoke. That he showed real skill after such an extended time away from the sport shows just how good he really is though to compete on a regular basis takes more time than he has with his own promotional commitments.

Now as for where a driver lists as his 'Home', Smoke is a tried and true Indiana boy and many other Drivers list there own 'Home Town' rather than where they actually live currently. Besides, open wheel isn't really a big deal in NC they being partial to 'Late Model' when dirt is involved as a track surface.

Jeff Gordon gets completely away from racing during his off-season. The Chili Bowl, the Rumble in Fort Wayne, and other midget races just aren't on his agenda. Since he has been in NASCAR, except for the Prelude to the Dream charity event, his racing career has stayed completely within NASCAR

Is he as good as Tony Stewart in a sprint/midget? I think so.

Is his passion/desire to strap in to an open wheeled monster on a clay oval on any given saturday night as strong as Stewarts?

    I don't think so!

Face it, if Gordon really wanted to he could have his contract written to allow for the occasional gladiatorial battle in the dirt.

I think he should run a limited dirt schedule, then he could use it for an excuse for why he didn't win the cup title. instead of the one he has now...... Jimmie Johnson! lol

  • Trust me, IF Gordo ever plans on trying to run this event, or something similar.. He will go race a few before hand. He WOULD get his a** handed to him by Kahne, Stewart, and probably even Leffler if he just jumped back into a midget! I don't think he has lost ANYTHING.. but he would need to revive some of his dirt track skill to contend again @ that level.

It could be sponsors, or Hendrick, or he is enjoying the off season with his wife and new baby girl. The Nascar season is long, and the off season very short. After all, he does deserve time off.

He has raced on dirt plenty of times. Maybe he is just enjoying the off season with his family!!!! It will be his 1st Christmas with his Daughter.

His sponsor might not let him, ( or his new wife). Like Bud did with dale jr after that crash at The 24 hr at Daytona.

If I was him I wouldn't do anything either. I would be with my wife and little girl as much as I could be with them because here pretty shortly the cup series is going to fire up and his time with his family will be limited.
