39 WKS, 0 CM DILATTED, 50% EFFACED. THIS IS AN IVF PREGNANCY and DO NOT WANT INDUCTION.?
My doc will only let me go 41 wks until he wants to induce. I was very disappointed to hear I hadn't dilated yet and my midwife was not so hopeful for me as well. She said that the baby was coming late and that we would probably need to be induced. I also have strep B, so stripping of my cervix is not an option to help move things along. I'm not feeling any symptoms such as menstrual-like cramps. Only sharp pains in my pelvis a few times a day when he moves around. We've been having sex every other day, I've been walking for 30 min a day, and have been taking evening primrose oil. Any other suggestions out there on what we can do to avoid PITOCIN? Or is my OB group jumping the gun and trying to induce me out of their own convenience?

You still have a week or two. Alot can happen really quickly. I was induced. I was soo disappointed. It wasn't that bad. its just a little faster. Besides as much as we want that natural birth where our water breaks and we rush to the hospital and its all like the movies, it cant always happen. I don't think doctors would do things for their own convenience either. They are there usually no matter what. So if it isn't your baby then there is another being born. And odds are you may not have that doctor. Besides if you are having a boy they are stubborn little farts. Mine was, they needed a vacuum extraction to haul him out. I think they like the accommodations. LOL! Good luck!

I just wanted to respond to the comment left about using the primrose vaginally to ripen your cervix. I did this with my 3rd child and the 2nd time I did it I had a placental abruption and had to be rushed to the hospital via ambulance. I read afterwards that EPO is kind of like aspirin in that it increases bleeding. It could have cost my son his life if I had bled more. That is just a warning. I hope that your OB will listen, it's safe to go to 42 weeks as long as you are closely monitored, they can check your placenta on ultrasound to make sure it's still functioning and that the womb enviroment is still safe for baby.
best of luck to you and congratulations on your upcoming birth.

Being induced really isn't a big deal. If you have some fears about it maybe you should talk to someone. Im sure there is a reason your doc wants to induce you. I wouldn't think theyd do that unless there was. So ask more question.

You have a say in the care you recieve and if you are absolutely against being induced I don't think they can force the issue unless/until there are grave concerns for the baby's safety and health. Nipple stimulation is said to help as a natural way of induction. I would begin having sex every day at least once if not more (If you can stand it)... the progesterone in male semen helps to ripen the cervix, and orgasm brings on contractions in the uterus. As for the primrose oil... if you are taking it orally try inserting vaginally instead. The gelcap will disentigrate and the oils will go straight to your cervix so it can do it's work faster and more efficiently. I've heard horror stories about trying to self induce with castor oil and such - so I would stear clear of that. Many people also report walking as a way to help bring on labor.\
Bets of luck to you!

I think you can ask that you NOT be induced until 42 weeks if there is no risk to the baby.
My due date is today and I've tried everything and nothing is speeding this process along for me. I've tried spicy food, sex, orgasm, walking, driving down bumpy roads. I bought pineapple, which I have to eat later, because that's supposed to induce! LOL. I'm sure the baby will just come out when she's ready. Stubborn little thing.
I would talk to your doctor about your fears. I also do not want to be induced because inductions end in a higher rate of C sections than natural progressing labors. Good luck!
