I have a refrigerator in my garage and the freezer doesn't work in the cold....?

It seems like the freezer section of my garage fridge doesn't work in the cold weather - when the garage temp falls below 32°F. It works fine in the summer when the garage is warm or hot. In the winter, ice doesn't form and ice cream melts. Is the only answer to keep the freezer door open or can I do something else?

Ummm the thermostat to start the freezer says to the freezer....its cold enough already.....It wont work until the air temp outside the freezer is above the temp inside the freezer.

Wrapping insulation around an already cold object will only delay the warmer outside air from getting to the thermostat.

Freezers are not designed to work in unheated spaces, that's why it doesn't work.

You can fool the thermostat by placing an incandescent bulb near the thermostat in the refrigerator compartment. This will create some additional heat inside the fridge and cause it to cycle more often. You may have to experiment to see how many watts will produce the right amount of additional heat. I first tried a 7W nightlight, but then moved up to a 25W bulb.

The only think I can think of is: insulate the outside of the fridge with that insulation that's safe, or a really warm blanket. It might look funny, but who's going into the garage anyways?

most new fridges and freezers wont work in cold areas,

you need some heat in there for it to work,

or just leave the door open,
