riding/ankle turning in??
i just started riding again after a few years break (no horse available) and i'm doing okay, havn't forgotten much of anything, but the other day i noticed i was having a really hard time with my left ankle, it kept turning in on me, more like rolling really. my toes were still pointing front and my heels were down but my foot would roll towards the saddle...anyone else had this happen and/or ideas on how to fix it? i ride english if that makes a difference....and yes i checked the stirrups to make sure they were the right length and even.

I think it has something to do with having a weaker ankle on that side. I had the same problem if I rode more than an hour and a half a day, and my right ankle started to hurt and turn.
Try getting an ankle brace and riding with it on- I used it for roughly 2 months consistently, then wore it less and less until I didn't use it as all, and now my ankle is fine and doesn't "act up" anymore.
Edit:
then ankle braces are the soft ones you get at walmart- they fit under your boot.

I agree it sounds like a weak ankle. Get an ankle brace, there are some good ones on the market that fit nicely under your boot.
I damaged the tendon running under the knobbly bone on the outside of the foot (don't you love my medical spiel!) due to taking up dressage and having to 'ride properly' after years of riding trails and no formal riding style. My ankle couldn't cope with the strain plus having the wrong stirrup position didn't help.
I have been riding with the ankle brace whether my ankle is sore or not and have found it has helped immensely as in the beginning I could not even trot without severe pain now I have full ability again. I also suggest you get some physio exercises to help strengthen you ankle as you may do more damage.

Sounds like its just weak. Could be from several reasons... previous injury on it,sore from riding muscle not used.
You could put a ankle brace on. Although I don't know if it'll fit over your boot. When ever my ankle hurts me or turns, I just tape it before I ride, when I'm done riding take it off. Takes a bit more time.
The reason why it happens to me? Its because I used to play soccer and had many injuries (most to the ankle and knee) and a ski accident (ran into a tree)

Try shifting your weight a little foward in the saddle - a more hunter seat position. If this doesn't help, try putting your foot a bit behind the knee. Remember, you want to keep your toe right underneath the tip of the knee. Hope this helps!
