One we've used that works well is a confidence-type pool that works like this:

    1) The teams are assigned values from 1-12 (eg. Pats 12, Colts 11, Packers 10, etc., all the way down to 1 for a team you think is out quickly)

    2) After each game, you get the number of points you had assigned to the winning team (eg. Seahawks beat 'Skins, and you have Seattle as your 8 team, then you get 8 points)

    3) At the end, the person with the most points wins

We've used this for a few years, and it's pretty fun. There's usually some good seperation after the second round of playoff games.

I always do a wildcard weekend pool, where they pick the 4 games. The games are worth 2 points each. Then I ask four questions like which team will have the most passing yards, which team will have the most rushing yards, which team will score the most touchdowns, which team will score the most field goals. I make the questions worth 1 pt each. Then the tiebreaker is the total points scored in all 4 games.

After this weekend, I do a final pool for the remainder of the playoffs. I do it in bracket format, like they do for the NCAA. I also put similar type questions worth 1 pt. each. E-mail me if you want me to send you a copy you can use.

I like the other guy's idea too though about assigning a number to each team.
