How many people are attacked annually by Whitetail deer?

An answer posted by JD in fishing led me to be curious as to the number of accidents or deaths caused by these raging beasts. Just curious more than anything. Anyone have info or a link to back up these numbers?

    "There have been bucks that have shadowed and followed people on riding mowers who have to run for fear of getting attacked. Deer hoofs are pretty lethal weapons. Bucks are very aggressive during the mating season. You don't want to get one cornered."

    I have no idea how many people are attacked by whitetails every year, but aside from those who die in accidents caused by deer impact or avoidance, there are 3 or 4 people killed by deer attacks annually. That is an average number I remember reading some years ago in a list of causes of death.

    Deer are color blind. They see blaze orange washed out. Take a blue film that you can look through and look at the blaze orange... that is basically what deer sees. nowhere exact but it will give you an idea. the bad side is that they see more into the UV spectrum so if you take a black light to the same blaze orange.. it will glow but that is because of the UV Dyes used in making the garments... even new fangled camo will glow under a black light... Again that is an Example, not an exact reality. Rim fire round is were the primer is found on the rim of the shell casing most typical is the .22 caliber Long Rifle as an example.. Center Fire Ammo is where the primer is located in the center of the shell casing. 99% of rifle, pistol, and shotgun rounds are center fire

    The U.S. Department of Fish and Game averages 130 people a year are killed by white-tailed deer. They usually occur when a person approaches the animal in an attempt to touch them. The animal, if skittish, will usually kick with its hind legs and if the hooves make contact with the person's head. It will cause severe and possibly deadly head trauma.

    All male deer can be aggressive during the mating season, attacks are more common than most people think. I don't have the figures that you ask for, but attacks frequently make the news and deaths have been recorded.

    Video of a sustained attack here;

    and details of several attacks here;

    Yes they are colorblind. They can't see blaze orange but they can smell you b4 they see you anyway. A centerfire cartridge has the primer in the middle of the head. The firing pin has to strike it @ that center to discharge the round. A rimfire has primer all the way around the rim of the head. The firing pin only has to strike somewhere on the rim to discharge the round. More info : Most states don't allow rimfire cartridges to harvest deer.

    I would guess the ones that smell like "Doe in Heat".

    White Tails are usually very scared of humans and are more likely to run than attack. Usually an animal attacks if provoked, scared, protecting young, or very hungry.

    So, try not to look like a huge acorn!

    Sorry, I have no numbers. Contact your game and fish commission for stats.

    It was called the "most dangerous game animal in North America" on MANswers because of all the car crashes and stuff they cause on top of rare attacks that happen during the rut. Attacks by white-tailed deer are ridiculously rare, but car collisions and the like are very common.

    Source(s): MANswers on Spike TV told me this, but that is the only episode not posted on the site.

    I think it's vehicles crashing due to deer. Here's a USA Today article that has some facts......1.5 Million in the US every year.

    I would heuss maybe 1-2. Deer are some of the most timid animals. More people die from donkey kicks than in airplane crashes.
