Why is there a Double Standard with Oklahoma and Ohio State?

Okay, so Oklahoma just got destroyed by a team who just suffered a heartbreaking loss and had an interim head coach in a BCS game. This makes them 0-4 in their last 4 BCS games. There are some criticisms now, but before now noone has said anything about OU...All you hear is that they are one of the best teams in the country, Stoops is a great coach, blah blah...

Ohio State, however, loses ONE BCS GAME to Florida last year and all of a sudden they are slow and terrible. I guess everyone forgot about the 3 previous BCS wins against Miami, Kansas State, and Notre Dame? (also an Alamo Bowl win against Oklahoma State and now LSU coach Les Miles)

Anyone know why this is?? Why do all college football fans feel the need to hate Ohio State and not Oklahoma? It's not like Ohio State has more history than Oklahoma does. What do you guys think

Update:

Hey idiots, OSU has had more NFL draft picks than any school EVER....I guess they're pretty "fat and slow" aren't they...

Also, we just played Texas the last two years, and have USC for the next two years. Study up kids before you spout ignorance..

Update 2:

They beat Miami when they were a dynasty. That team had 43896258947 first round draft picks on it...

Coming into the season Ohio State was supposed to be rebuilding and finish no higher than 3rd in the Big 10. This team has played much better than expected and has the tools that are said to win games. A strong defense, a balanced offense with a bruising running back who can move the chains and chew up clock and as always solid special teams that enables them maintain field advantage. They always say if you can run the ball and stop the run, you are in good shape to win.

The nat'l media likes ESPN highlights, big name players and sexy, flashy teams. Ohio State is a very blue-collar team in every aspect, this makes them the red-headed step child.

My personal observation is that each BCS championship game is billed as david v goliath, this year will be no exception. By the way david has won 7 of the 9 BCS titles.

Apparently you don't pay much attention to the media. Most every announcer I know hates Oklahoma lol. Being an OU fan and licking my wounds as it may be...we are still hated, by many. The Bowdens, Keith Jackson, many announcers people just don't like OU. And I am beginning to see why lol. They play so good then when it really matters they choke. But hey, you have to love em through the good and the bad. Also Switzers teams and the couple of years after didn't do our reputation any good. We won a lot of games but we paid a price for it.

I do however hate Ohio State. I just get tired of them getting the "easy" route all the time. Everytime someone suffers a defeat or misfortune...who is there to pick up the pieces and capitolize? Ohio State. It's like the guy at the office who does nothing extra or no overtime...he has just been there at the right time and gets the raise when someone else gets jobbed.

Allbeit as it may...this has been a wacky year..and I expect nothing different in the last two games. After all is said and done I don't think 1 team can consider themselves proud the way it turned out. National Title or not each team still has something stuck with them that isn't so peachy.

Part of it is the non-confernce schedule that Ohio State ran this year. Part of it is all the talk of how great Ohio State was supposed to be last year, and then getting crushed the way they did. Ohio State is not a bad team, and neither is Oklahoma.

The Big 10 is in a down year this year. Illinois had no real place in the BCS, but by BCS rules (no more than 2 teams per conference) they were put in.

Oklahoma played a tougher schedule this year, but last years loss to Boise State isn't remembered as much as the National Championship game. Because the NC game was the last game of the season, and watched by everyone. Not everyone was watching the Feista Bowl, just like not everyone watched it last night either.

Your agrument of who they beat, Kansas State and Notre Dame, didn't belong in the BCS either year they made it. And don't even bring up the Pass Interference Game against Miami.

I would say that Oklahoma's loss to Boise State was worse than the Ohio State loss to Florida. Just as Oklahoma's loss to West Virginia looked horrible and would be worse in my opinion that if Ohio State lost to LSU.

Source(s): add-on: Johnny U... You need to look at the reports. The top academic rated team in the Big 10 would have finished 6th in the SEC this year. This is after the Big 10 commissioner did this whole rant. This was done by an independent bureau after he ran his mouth, that his accusations were false. Quit hating and just enjoy the football.

Haterism aka jealousy, if they are not successful they want to bring down others to there level so that others are not successful. Sports are very emotional for fans & people use sports as an outlet, the ones you see who act classless, unsportsmanlike, angry, or just plain go too far are are showing theyre worst side which unfortunately for them is theyre true side, it just took an outlet or something they could express that side of themselves out on like sports. To put it simply they are embarrasing themselves & usually dont even realize it. To answer your question though, I think if people do hate osu, its cause theyre one of the most successful programs in the nation, especially since "The Vest" has been on the sideline. I think the theory that the Big 10 is slow is completely ridiculous, look what Michigan did to the same program that destroyed osu last year. You can have all the speed you want but you still need to be a good all around team. Is the SEC better as a whole, yes definitely, but I think osu has the best defense in the nation & should be able to hang with lsu, plus you heard it here firts...osu is going to come out & play with a chip on theyre shoulder cause theyve heard all year about how they are slow & inferior to the SEC, they are going to bring theyre A game like WVU did vs oklahoma.

They didn't beat miami, they were handed a win by a phantom interference call, Brady Quinn and Notre dame didn't even belong in that game, and Kansas state give me a break. grab a small dose of reality, Ohio State isn't and hasn't been that good for a while. and Speed alone wasn't why they loss last year. They lost because Tressel was too damn scared of speed and sat in a stupid @$$ zone all night. I could have beat Ohio State last year. They never played man, for an entire night of football. It was easy.

I Know; I completely agree. I just don't understand why there's one bowl loss, and all of the sudden we're a horrible team. Both USC, LSU, and every other "good" team out there has 2 or more losses. We are one of what is now only 3... 3 teams in the entire nation... with one loss. That is a pretty amazing feat. That obviously deserves a National Championship.

Oh well... Any further doubters can eat their words come January 7th on the football field.

I don't know, looking at your average year in those conferences:

Big 12: Two great teams, Texas, OU

Big Ten: Two great teams, Mich and OSU

Big 12: A couple teams that are sometimes great, but inconsistent (Nebraska, Texas Tech)

Big Ten: A couple teams that are sometimes great, but inconsistent (Penn State, Wisconsin)

Big 12: A couple teams that suck for decades and occassionally pull off some awesome season (Kansas, Mizzou, K State)

Big Ten: A couple teams that suck for decades and occassionally pull off some awesome season (Illinois, Iowa, Purdue)

So I don't see why Oklahoma's two losses in the Big 12 gives them argument to be in the title game, while OSU's 1 Big 10 loss gives them no right to be in it?

You mentioned that Ohio State has more players drafted in the NFL and that may be true. I didn't check it out but I think we can all agree that the winningest team in the NFL is the New England Patriots. The Patriots have only one player from Ohio State while they have four from LSU. Do you see the connection?

oklahoma is a joke the only reason they keep getting that far is cuz mack brown keeps holding back texas from being the BCS powerhouse it should be. How do i know this? Texas has out recruited every team in the country for the last decade but only won a single national championship. something's wrong with that picture

You must realize that Ohio State is in a conference that just, well, to be honest, just isn't very good. Even if they win all games they still are looked on as a Big10 team that is fat and slow. Sorry....but that is the reality, son.
