Quick it's an emergency??!!?
Does your boss manufacture Emergencies and create bogus Deadlines? Why do you think they do it??
Mine does -- it makes me want to scream. (Today after his little fit, I actually heard him mention the actual deadline as "the end of March" This was something that I HAD to do IMMEDIATELY.)
I had already FINISHED it when I heard the real deadline -- when he said IMMEDIATELY, I dropped everything else and did that instead.

Yes, there are a couple of people in my office that do that, too. Trouble is that once they gets caught 'creating' deadlines, no one in the office will ever believe them again. And then they will wonder why nothing gets done on time.

Actually, while working as a lifeguard, my manager almost fired me for "not noticing a drowning patron". Apparently the kid almost drowned three times and was vomitting up water.
No one called EMS and the kid was swimming with her friends just fifteen minutes later.
None of the other lifeguards on duty noticed any problems with the kid. And never saw the kid talking to the head lifeguard that accused me of such a horrible job.
I also found it funny that just the day before, I had gotten into a very heated arguement with the manager's less-than-educated little sister.

My boss does the same thing! He produces harsh deadlines to try to stay ahead of the competition between companies. Although it is unfair, it is the only way to stay in business.

I am my only boss. I usually don't tell myself there are deadlines to meet unless I have been slacking and then I will try and trick myself. But, I usually know it is a trick and so it doesn't work.

usually that means someone is pressuring them to get some answers or results.
Next time ask the boss questions, keeping him calm, and you will find out what you need to know.
Otherwise, if he goes off into a tyrade again, just ask him which other pressing matters were less important so that you can prioritize properly for his requirements.

They are simply making a deadline for you, perhaps more has to be done after you do your work, which would attribute the different date.

He is probably idea stealing. He will get your 'report' check out the good parts. Rewrite it with his name on it and turn in for his promotional credit.
My glass used to be half full, before my last couple jobs I swear.

Yes because if he gives you an early date then it gets out on time. If he gives the actual date then it goes out late
