Why does yahoo say "Romney goes after Huckabee, McCain", when it was everyone against Romney?

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/us/politics/06re...

Even one of the reporters for ABC said right after the debate he was shocked how often the candidates ganged up on Romney. Since McCain is leading in New Hampshire I though the other candidates would go after him.

I've never heard McCain, Giuliani, or Huckabee ever attack each other. Why is that?

Well, first of all, the "Romney goes after" can only mean one of two things: either the columnist Thought that's what happened, or that's what the columnist wants Others to think happened.

As for the other candidates ganging up on Mitt Romney, again, there are two possibilities. One, each could see him as a serious threat in the nomination fight. After all, while Mike Huckabee won Iowa and is competitive in South Carolina, and while John McCain is competitive in New Hampshire, only Romney has been competitive in all three states, and more. He won Wyoming, is in a virtual tie with Rudy Giuliani in Nevada, and leads in Michigan. The only hope that McCain and Huckabee have of staying competitive is if they can derail Romney's train early on. Giuliani, of course, stands a much better chance on Super Tuesday if he's facing either McCain or Huckabee, since neither one has the broad appeal (or money) that Romney has, so it's no surprise that he'd rather face one of them for the nomination battle.

And of course, there's always the chance that they're all just emotionally stunted bigots who can't stand the fact that Romney actually has a chance of beating them. Whatever the case, if he actually gets the nomination, the other candidates will look pretty stupid when they try to campaign For him next fall.

Romney ran a lot of attack ads on television with half truths and out right lies. He can do that because he's rich, the television networks like rich guys running ads on their stations. Romney deserved to be tarred and feathered, he got off too easy.

You're right, it did seem like everyone was after Romney...people seem real cranky about all of Romney's attack ads, for sure--he has been just pouring money into negative ads.

Source(s): I'm watching the debate right now! McCain just said to Romney "You can spend your whole personal fortune on negative ads, and the lies still won't be true."

I agree with you. McCain and Huckabee have been after Romney for the last few weeks.

    Vote Mitt Romney!

I'm afraid that it is because they are jealous of Mitt's nice hairline. :o)

Unfortunately I think that it's due to some bias that they have toward Romney. (other than they are running for the same job)

They really started attacking him on his religion, which is stupid if you ask me. I think Romney seems like a good candidate for president.

Probably b/c Romney has spoken down on the other candidates in his campaign trail. He has also flip flopped on a lot of issues.

Because this is when the "news" organizations want to offer spin to people who did not get a chance to watch it. They were all over Romney.

You have to understand, it's not always about going after the leader in the polls. It's about how to present yourself to the audience and how you yourself tackle the issues.

Romney has been subject to a lot of criticism and has also picked fights. He showed his lack of character and hostility tonight with the debates; I think he really turned a lot of people off with how he handled criticism.

They only attack the candidate that they fear the most. If you're being ignored you are not a threat.
