Ever heard of generator gas or producer gas? This is how Europe kept going when the oil supplies were exhausted. There is a guide online on how to make one of these devices - they are cheap and can run on wood chips.

It wasn't gasoline it was a coal slurry which was just unstable enough to be used in engines. Check the history and chemistry books. We're not getting paid to do your research!
