Does the color of a person's blood signify anything?
When getting my blood drawn at the lab, I have always noticed that blood comes in many shades.
I had blood drawn today and it was so dark, it was almost black. I had a baby in July and remember my blood being a brighter shade of red while I was pregnant.
Do the differing colors of blood mean anything?

Yes, these shades of blood indicate how much iron is in your blood. The darker the blood, the more iron it contains.

Blood exposed to air is bright red. Blood drawn does not have as much air exposure and is darker. The blood in your veins is blue because it is low in oxygen and after the oxygen gets in the blood (via the lungs) it turns red again.

The different oxygen and iron contents will affect color. Lack of oxygen makes blood look blue, iron will make it darker red.

Blood color can vary from "bright red" to dark red, so there's nothing you should be afraid of. The time you should be afraid is when it turns other color from red.

I know from my experience *Mine is almost black too!!* that if you smoke that can make it darker, or if you dehydrated.
