The Internet should not be censored, in my opinion, but I do have growing concerns that in many homes the children have a better knowledge of how to use a computer than parents do, and so they can over-ride features used to prohibit the kids from entering sites that they shouldn't have access to.

Most forums, like this one, have the means to censor the content for decency, and that seems adequate to me. The government could only botch any attempts to the point that the initial reasons for doing so would be taken beyond what is necessary to provide a reasonable degree of moderation in content.

The gov't has no right or reason to censor the internet.

Individual companies can police their own forums and servers for things they are in disagreement with. Parents can keep their kids from visiting offensive material. Nothing more is necessary-at this point it all comes down to personal responsibility, we dont need the gov't taking that away in any more areas.

No, the government doesn't and shouldn't have the authority to censor the internet. They do have the authority to shut down those who are trying to defraud others via the internet.

I believe certain things should be censored, but how do you feel about Internet censorship?

Absolutely not. And protect the public from what? Reading something? It's not like you can get sick or injured just from using the internet.

Content should always be monitored within the context of the stated purpose of a particular venue...yes.

That is what makes the Internet so democratic. You can say whatever you wish..unless it directly "harms" someone. In this particular forum for instance.....the audience is not restricted to adults, therefore one must be circumspect to adult issues.

No. But I definitely think parents should be more aware of what their children are browsing on the net. Censorship should start from home.

Update: For the thumbs downer: so you think kids should be allowed to see everything on the net without explanation or guidance? that's very responsible.

What the hell ever happened to freedom and personal responsibility!? I don't need big brother to protect me from myself.
