How do i take care of 2 ...............5 week old puppies?[they are Danish Broholmer]?

The mom of the puppies past away as a result of a car rundown...i volunteered and took the 2 pups but now i realized that i don't know how to take care of them..i know one thing for sure that cows milk is not good for them so i give them very diluted milk since there isn't puppy milk sold readily were i live..the puppies seem to be very healthy and playful and sleep a lot. But what i am concerned about is what should i feed them and how often.

They can drink the milk from the bowl now so i don't have to feed them in bottles. Can they eat solid food now? if so...than what kind and how often.? [Examples please]

Don't give them any more milk ok! It could give them the runs. You can make puppy mush for them. Very easy!

2 cups of dry puppy food put it in a blender chop it up!

add just enough warm water to make a oatmeal like mush feed this to the pups 4 times a day!

Have just clean cool water for them all the time in a shallow bowl ok.

At 6 weeks old just soak the puppy food in warm water until soft break it up with a fork. Feed this 4 times a day.

At 7 weeks old they should be eating about 3 cups of food 4 times day wet the food less and feed this to them. Clean cool water avaible all the time.

8 weeks old dry food if they can chew it if not just a bit of water 3 cups 4 times a day, water all the time.

    Hope this helps!

I found a 4wk old black puppy in my front yard last year and when I took him to the vet that morning the whole office made a huge fuss over him! My vet knew all about him even before he saw him. At the time I didn't know anything about puppies that small so my vet told me NOT to give him wet puppy food, but instead to water down dry puppy food because not all puppies that young can digest the small chunks of meat in wet food. You also might want to go ahead and get used to sleeping with him, it's the only way either one of you will get any rest! Unfortunately you will not be able to start housetraining, at that age they cannot control their bowels well enough yet. Just keep an eye on him and only put him down on non-carpeted floors until he's about 7wks old. Also, I neglected to have a parvo test done. Please learn from my mistake and have that done immediately. My little Chance would probably still be here with me today if I had done that one small thing.

They don't need to be on milk any more -- most b*tches tend to start weaning puppies once they get a few teeth so by now they are capable of eating a minced meat and crushed kibble sort of diet. Not sure where you are but if you can get a decent quality puppy food and grind it in a grinder or blender, and then add in some chopped/minced meat and then soak it with some water to a sort of pablem consistency, that will usually be just fine. As long as they stay with their littermates (I guess the two stay together) until they are at least over the age of eight weeks, they should be fine. I usually have my pups on food by the time they are around four weeks as the moms tend to want them to slow down around 3.5 weeks -- different b*tches are different though and I have had them not wean until around six weeks but still the pups can start eating some very mushy food by about three weeks if they needed to. Good luck... IF you want to add milk in, find goats milk and they don't need bottles at all... but they really aren't needing much in the way of milk but you can put a little goat milk in the pablem mixture if you want... good luck.

They are more than old enough for semi-solid mush.

I use powdered milk (like for human use) mixed a little stronger than suggested. I generally make about 32 ounces at a time and use hot water. I then add that to dry puppy food. If you have time, you can let it sit and soak up, but in a pinch, I put it in a microwave safe bowl and nuke it on 50% for several minutes, stir it, and continue to nuke it, adding more milk as needed until it is a mushy with lots of extra liquid.

Cool it to warm to the wrist and feed.

Over the next several weeks, you can make it less and less mushy and leave small chunks as well as not leaving soo much liquid in it until you have them switched completely to dry.

    Always have fresh water available.
