unable to play DVD's?

I have tried Windows Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player and AVS DVD Player and I get no picture or sound. I have all the correct codecs so that is not a problem. Could it be the onboard gaphics or what? The DVD drive light flashes for a while and then stops. I am able to play CD's on the DVD player.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanx

Update:

These DVD's play on my other PC and on my DVD recorders.

Update 2:

I have all the necessary codecs, players etc. There is just no response at all from the PC.

download VLC player, its free and will play almost and video format. If the movie still wont play clean the lens of your dvd player. i am assuming the disc you are trying to play is not a copy.

Does the DVD play on a regular DVD player? Other computers?

it is not from your hardware. check your DVD surface is it clean ? are you sure from DVD health

if yes it is from your software try below:

if it is video DVD you need DVD player and you can use power DVD or InterVideo WinDVD or Elecard DVD Player.

if it is not video DVD i think it is a movie that coded by some codecs.

you need some plugins and codec so you can try Divx or Xvid (these are free) or both of them.

also may be you need DVD player plugin for your windows media player and you can get it by installing power DVD or Elecard MPEG-2 Decoder & Streaming Plug-in for WMP.

also you can try these free player GOM Player or VLC Media Player. these players are comes with all codec inside .

It might be region code issue, have you tried playing the DVD on your DVD player?
