What possible way could someone kill a power supply of a PC; I don't want to kill a 4th one this year.?

I killed 3 power supplies in a year, I am not quite sure how, but I would ask to avoid killing a 4th one because it's quite rotten day to have that. Here are the circumstances that I killed them, please list out all possible ways that I might or might not know:

1. First killing is to a stocked power supply that had been running now and then for 2.5 years, I suspect it is just mechanical fatigue.

2. Second killing is on the same PC, a replacement 400 watt supply since my Reset button is not convenient to reach I just turn off and back on I suspect that increased fatigue and made the supply lasted only 3 months.

3. Third killing is a 200 watt guy today, I suppose I should've seen it coming it powered Athlon 64 X2 but did have outages now and then and a GeForce 7 is just too much adding onto it. It sorta revs up now but have not even enough output powering my spare P2. Today had been an extremely rotten day with fan stuck et all.

You didn't kill them. Your system did, because it needs LOTS of power, and it will continue going through replacements until you buy a decent PSU.

If you had replaced the original power supply with a brand name one of equal or greater wattage, in the first place, you wouldn't be having all these problems.

Don't be "Penny wise, but pound foolish", spend some money and do it right.

Step 1: buy a surge protecter odds are you have power surges and that WILL kill a power supply.

Step 2:Clean the inside of your case blow out the dust bunny's that will overheat the power supply also the power supply fan.

Step 3:buy the highest wattage power supply you can afford.

Step 4:press control alt delete at the same time and the turn off or restart buttons will come up so you don't have to turn on and off with the buttons.

Yep, get a good decent power supply. 64 X2 needs at least 100w just for the processor its self. Most mobos need at least 50w too. So as the others have said, a good 5-800w power supply is what you need.

my first advice is to stop buying no-name power supply. try a more brand name one, and get more wattage then you need. it may cost more, but its safer and easier in the long run.

generally speaking, try a brand like antec or cooler master. there are more good ones out there, but antec and coolermaster are consistantly in supply and generally good.

if you are welling to put down a good amount of money (not much more), try corsair.

I had all kinds of issues, till I bought a mac mini.

Then no more break downs or virus or spyware, just pure computer bliss.
