The "greatest" what?
I would say she is the greatest sales & marketing tool Nike has within its tennis line, at the moment. She sells more tennis clothes than Roger Federer.
She is also the greatest sales tool for the O3 line of Prince racquets. Have you seen the new ads? She is most prominently shown.
Is she the current greatest woman tennis player? No.
Can she become the greatest female tennis player? Let's wait and see.

at what... certainly not tennis. She beat Davenport, but Davenport has been playing like crap and didnt move for the vast majority of shots. Do you think Sharapova can do that a Williams sister or Justine Henin? Sharapova isnt at their level right now and I wouldnt be surprised if Ana Ivanovic catches her too by the end of the year. Kuznetsova, while not aestetically pleasing, is far more consistent as well, hence the #2 ranking

Greatest?
you must be kidding me!
Sharapova has won 2 slams not 18 like Graff!Graff is,unless someone tops that # of slams is the GOAT of women's tennis!
Graff has won ALL 4 slams + a gold medal + YEC +Fed Cup
Sharapova has never won a title on red clay forget about winning Roland Garros
she hasn't won in Melbourne either
give me a damn break!

Her endorsers would agree (all 10 million of them) but she is not the greatest.
She is obviously the poster girl for womens tennis, but I think her number 5 ranking is appropriate (with the williams sisters replacing Kuznetsova and Jankovic).

I wasn't aware of anybody ever calling her "the greatest". she is certainly the most intriguing, and probably the most appealing in terms of combining success on the court, beauty, and commercial marketability. She is indeed the most complete "total package" in women's tennis (and all sports for that matter), but "the greatest"? I don't think so.

NEVER!! She doesn't have the game like Steffi, Martina,Chris!! I believe that all these players have more than 2 grand slams when they where 20 years old. I'll be surprised if she wins more than five Grand Slams!! But she wont be considered to be "The Greatest"!!
