septum piercing info. please?

hiiii... :]

well, i've discussed the subject of getting a facial piercing with my Mom for a loooong time now, and she said that a septum would be okay, as long as i did my research and made sure that it wouldn't impair me in any way...

i've also come to the decision for a septum piercing seeing as my Dad would absolutely flip, and i heard that these piercings are easy to hide by flipping them up...?

also...somebody told me that you have to have a certain "look" to pull off a piercing like this...but my only worry about it is that i have a pretty much small/short nose...so would it end up looking okay, or just plain stupid on me?

i was hoping that it would make my nose look a bit taller. :)

um...and any special things that i'd need to attend to or watch out for?? is this more dangerous than other piercings, also because since Mommy said it's in a "wet place"?

please please help!!

thank you!♥

Update:

and i also forgot to put (it may seem a little dorky, but oh well. :B hehe) that i made a fake one out of cutting up a paper clip and tried it to see what it would look like, and i liked it...

and that i just think that this piercing in general is really cute. :)

I think you would look great with a septum piercing. It would suit you very well.

It's somewhat of a "wet place," but not as much as a regular nostril piercing. That doesn't make it anymore dangerous (just regularly clean it).

They take 6-10 weeks to heal.

You need to follow this aftercare:

Doing all-natural, non-iodized sea salt soaks on the piercing 1-2 times a day.

A pinch of salt for every 8 ounces of hot water. Soak for 15-30 minutes, and rinse well with cool, salt-free water afterwards.

It has to be sea salt only, and must be non-iodized- anything else is way too harsh and will do nothing but dry out, and irritate your piercing.

You need to cleanse it 1-2 times a day with a mild/organic soap. Something like J/A/S/O/N, Tom's, Provon, or Satin.

This aftercare is written, and followed by the APP (Association of Professional Piercers)- http://www.safepiercing.org/

Doing plain, hot water soaks/compresses helps with redness, pain, and irritation too. It's great for the Bump also.

Cartilage is more prone to getting The Bump.

Here is a link that explains it in full detail:

It can be flipped up. Make sure you let your piercer know ahead of time that you want to do this so, you can pick out the right jewelry that will allow you to do this. Example- Some circular barbells (horseshoe rings) are too large, and uncomfortable to wear flipped up.

Your piercer will let you know what jewelry is best for you.

Also, look around for a great piercer (The APP's website can help you find an APP-Certified piercer in your area).

Check out their portfolio too. Look for pictures of freshly pierced, AND healed septum piercings.

The septum piercing is the easiest facial piercing to hide, for you can get it pierced with a septum retainer which flips up inside the nose and is very comfortable. You can also flip circular barbells up into the nose but they can be a bit annoying.

Just make sure who ever does it is a professional and that they are using sterile products and you yourself will have to make sure you keep the area clean so it will not get infected!

you should talk to the people at the piercing shop they will explain any problems with the piercing and will let you know how it will look and heal just ask them all of your questions that you have on your mind.
