Should the USA allow Mexico and Canada to become states?
I've met dozens of Mexicans and Canadians who have moved to the US. Mexico's government appears to be corrupt and Canada's government is more worried about Europe then their own country. America has helped so many people across the globe, but why not it's neighboors?

Who says Canadians WANT to be part of the US? I live here (Canada) and there is a general prejudice against Americans. Why would we want to unite with 'the enemy?'
FYI Canada's government isn't worried about anything except it's own freaking paycheck. But the US needs to work on it's immigration policies with Mexico. Instead of asking "how can we keep them out?" why not ask "why are they trying so hard to get in?" If the US was willing to address the economic situation of Mexico and place a tighter reign on it's own businesses to stop them from using illegal labor, this wouldn't be a problem. Mexican would want to stay in Mexico because there'd be no reason to leave. As the situation stands, however, in Mexico, there's a lot of poverty. In the US, there's not (or so it seems). Who in their right minds trying to care for themselves and their families wouldn't seek greener pastures? You should be flattered.

It's not so much should they "allow", but rather, would they WANT to become states. Interestingly, some years back, a poll was conducted in Canada as to whether Canada would ever become part of the U.S. The results showed that most Canadians thought that it would eventually happen.
Mexico is a different story. Even though Mexico is in an envious position geographically, it is a poor country, and probably isn't a good prospect to become a state. Remember this..Puerto Rico has had many chances to become a state and has so far voted it down each time.

The question is not whether US should ALLOW Mexico and Canada to become states, but whether Mexico and Canada WANT to become states.
The US is known for its meddling in foreign affairs, whether if the effort is appreciated or not. Just look at the war our country is fighting right now! Does the US have a right to meddle?
So no, I don't like the idea of Mexico and Canada joining the US. America has enough of its own problems.

As much as I am against it, it is already in the works...look up the following...
Security and Prosperity Partnership
North American Union
Council on Foreign Relations
NAFTA Superhighway
We are eventually (I hope not, but I fear for the worst), going to lose our sovereignity...the Government is pushing for a North American Union similiar to the European Union, the Asian Union, the African Union...all these conglomerate governements, most likely coming together under a one world type of governement, headed by th U.N.
It might sound like consipiracty theory, and thats where i first heard about these things, but they are very real and very serious things to consider. The deal with any conspiracy theory, media headlines, or any information you might find is to do the research for yourself and seperate the truth from speculation and opinon.
peace.

I disagree with your assertion that Canada is "worried" about Europe. We in Canada think almost nothing about Europe; our focus is on the United States and Asia.
Now to deal with your bigger question, there is very, very little interest in Canada in linking up with the United States as one of its states. In particular, Canadians worry that this would get us drawn into America's strange foreign military adventures -and I say this as a pretty conservative Canadian who has served in the military

Why do you think that just because the USA "allows" it that Mexico or Canada would give up its sovereignty as a their own nation to become a US State? I don't like the idea of the N.A.U, i don't think it would work at all.

Canada doesn't wanna pay for us, and we don't wanna pay for Mexico.
So NO!
Besides, our governments and philosohies are so different!
Could u imagine if we had to pay mexicans in mexico $7.55 an hour?
Or TRYING to give the whole continent Universal Health Care like Canada?
What is right for one county is not right for another.
I do not support attempting to run it under one government!

'Scuse me, but WHO has the higher UN Human Development Index rating here?
Canada does.
Why would we POSSIBLY want to become a US state? You'd just drag our national stats down.

I think this question is very disrespectful toward Canada and Mexico.

i doubt they want to become U.S. states. they most likely like being their own independent country, even if they have a lot of problems.
