Are you better off now than you were four years ago?

The Republican Party has offered up this question as a gauge for voters since Ronald Reagan was president, but we don't hear it in this election.

I'm asking it now. Are you?

I actually am, but I feel the country is in a much worse state. The current government seems to try to lead with fear rather than spirit. They have spent an uncountable amount of money on a war that, at best, had little to do with what got us there in the first place. We have a huge environmental problem that is continually forcibly shoved under the rug. We have no solution for a national debt that won't go away. We need a president that inspires people, both in congress and the national public, to spend money in the right places and encourage the people to get involved to make this country what it should be: a national powerhouse that isrespected by the rest of the world, not feared and disdained by it.

I am personally, my wife and I are making about $10,000 more a year and have a lot more in savings and investments. But that is just my situation. I work with low income families, and the biggest hit in our nation has been on those with incomes at or near the poverty level. Most low income families have no discretionary income, so if they are lucky enough to get Bush's rebate, it will go to pay bills they have accumulated. Gasoline and food prices have skyrocketed in the past 7 years, and while my income can absorb that increase with some griping, someone who makes $8 an hour sees their paychecks in reality going for a lot less. Unfortunately every candidate except for Edwards in the previous election didn't even acknowledge porr people or that poverty exists. Because of course, they don't generally vote since this country has left them behind.

A lot better than if a Democrat was in office.

The bigger question, Is the World we live in "better off"?

Definately! A Democrat would have "bailed" on the Middle East, & left it with bigger problems than they had BEFORE we started fighting for "them". The "Dems" do NOT have a plan. They just tell you what they think you want to hear, then either do nothing, or the opposite of what needs to be done.

Yes. The waves from Washington don't rock my boat all that much. 4 more years of paid off mortgage, property value is way up (lake house), son got married, investments have done well, promotion at work, everyone is healthy.

Thumbs down isn't going to change it either, but have at it.

If life sucks for you...too bad, so sad. Guess you made the wrong choices.

No. Between the Iraq War and the home mortgage crisis, the US economy is withering. The value of the US dollar and the US stock market are plunging. None of us are better off. We face serious problems going forward.
