My Bathroom Leaks. Plumbing Question.?

My House is on 1 1/2 foot stilts and I live on solid ground near Baton Rouge Louisiana where it does not get very cold very often. In my bathroom, when it gets cold.... my toilet leaks where the porcelain touches the tile floor. It only leaks about 1 cup of liquid (enough to leave a puddle on the floor), but only when it gets below freezing.

Does anybody have any idea of what maybe happening and how I need to solve it.

There is a seal between your toilet and the main outlet pipe. It's probably in need of a replacement. Turn off the water supply, flush (to drain the tank), disconnect the water line to the tank, you'll have some water in there still so be prepared.

Remove the two plastic caps on the base, remove the nuts/bolts that secure the toilet to the floor. Carefully remove the toilet and set it to the side.

You'll see the "wax seal", it's a black rubber seal, pull it off, clean up any water and old caulking that was around the base area. Insert new "wax seal", replace the toilet, tighten the nuts/bolts and reseal the base with a quality silicon.
