Older printer uses old printer cable and does not have a USB port. New computer has only USB port. How can I connect my printer to my computer? Is there some kind of adapter?

You will need the adapter mentioned above, a parallel port to USB adapter. Here is the big problem you may run into, compatibility. If the printer is old enough that it doesn't have a USB port on it then it will not work well with you new computer. In fact you may not be able to find drivers easily.
I admire your willingness to protect the environment by not sending your printer to the scrap yard. But you will probably have to break down and get a new one. It is very sad that now it is often cheaper to buy a new printer than it is to get ink for it. They are so disposable that you can't even find someone to repair them for less than the replacement cost.
Hope this helps.

Yes, an adapter is a possible solution. You could get this at Best Buy or Radio Shack.
Of course, my advice would be to replace the printer. Reasoning: Older printers are harder to get supplies for and the parts do wear and tear. Printers are throw away purchases any more. The expense is in the supplies, which can easily cost you more than the printer itself.
When you go to the stores looking for this adapter think about the cost benefit analysis theory. Are you getting your money's worth purchasing the adapter over replacing the printer now?

While you could buy a parallel to usb converter, especially if the new pc uses vista, then i'd just go and buy a new printer - something like a canon ip4500 will only cost about twice the price of the adaptor and will have far better print quality than any non-usb printer and will be considerably quicker.
The only reason to keep using an old printer is if it's a dot-matrix printer and you need triplicate hard-copy.

Google "USB to Parallel adapter" and you will find cables from about $10 on up that should do the job. They will allow you to connect your old printer to the computer via the USB port.

I am not sure if there is an adaptor to connect the printer cable to a USB port...however, there are printers that can be purchased for as little as $50.00...
not sure that is the answer you want to hear...

Yes, there should be an adapter available. I would try calling the maker of the printer to see if they sell one, if not, try searching the internet using " 'your brand here' printer USB adapter" or something along those lines.
we use an adapter for that.

There must be adapters for this sort of dilemma. I would need to know the models of your printer and your computer to try to help you more... have you been to the printer company's website for help? I would begin there. Good luck!

I do not know of any adapters, I would just scrap the old printer and get a newer one. They are pretty cheap and the new ones have better technology!
