Is cheering for the Yankees the same as cheering for the house at a casino?

The Yankees are supposed to win. They spend the most money they are supposed to win. Granted, they haven't won it all lately, but overall they've done it more than anyone else. It's like cheering for the blackjack dealer or being a fan of the roulette wheel.

Update:

I stole that analogy from a stand-up comic Doug Stanhope.

It used to be "Cheering for the Yankees is like cheering for General Motors" but you can see why that doesn't work anymore.

Sure, I guess that's got an element of truth to it, but there are folks who would cheer for them WITHOUT the history, so I guess you have to keep in mind that the casino owners are people, too, and their family members would be right to cheer!

If the house had performed like the postseason Yankees since 2000, there would be plenty of casinos out of business in Vegas.

They have the most to spend and are a great franchise, but it's a hell of a lot tougher to win in MLB than it is for the house. The odds are always against the bettor and in favor of the house, whereas the Yankees have stiff competition all the time.

I would say its more like rooting for a lamborgini racing a bunch of regular cars some civics, accords, an F-150, thrown in some BMW's (Red-Sox, Indians, Etc.). There are so many other factors involved that just because it costs the most doesn't mean something won't go wrong.

Although it seems the Red-Sox are now a Ferrari or something.

The Red Sox are just a tad behind the Yankees in spending now. They are one in the same anymore.

I am dating myself, but the analogy used to be "Rooting for the Yankees was like rooting for US Steel." I guess you could put Microsoft in there somewhere to update it.
