why is it that women tend to feel the cold more than women?

just an observation (im sure there are exceptions) but women appear to feel the cold more than men.

i know men who wear tshirt and shorts in the winter while women are wrapped up in warm clothes.

Also at work, women always want the heating on while blokes want the air con on.

Any ideas why this is?

Update:

ERROR......

question shoul read: Why is it than women tend to feel the cold more than men?

Update 2:

i should make errors more often. seem to get more response as people are quite keen to point out any mistakes lol.

Men's bodies, on the whole, metabolize and maintain homeostasis (internal furnace in the winter, internal AC in the summer) better than women's do. It's something we needed during the caveman days, when we were out hunting and gathering. BTW, don't complain about mother nature and double standards. Remember we're the ones who have to manage and control that internal monster called our sex drive. I'll take your metabolism any day over that.

You're right that women seem to feel the cold more.

I think the muscle mass idea is right.

Also, if men are bigger than women, they have more surface area to lose heat from in relation to their volume.

Finally, women in my office often get around in skirts and tops, so they have more skin exposed; and they still complain about the cold even if they are not wearing much!

Next question: why can't they get the air con in our building working properly, even though the repairman is here every second day?

I think men feel the cold as much as women do.

It is just men like to show off how strong they are when faced against the natural elements.

Women wrap up in warm clothes in cold weather, because they tend to have much more sense.

That is a mystery, because women tend to have a lot more fat than men, so one would think they would be better equipped, perhaps an anthropologist in here could shed some light?

    Lol. Not in my case.

I'm almost always the cold one.

I'm most comfortable around 77 degrees, that's what our house is on all the time so anything lower than that and I'm cold.

Like my friends house was 65 and I was shivering a little and I had on a jacket and long pj pants. lol.

Because men have a high percentage of muscle and it tends to help them stay warm. Also it is partially mind over matter. Men don't just sit and think wow i am freezing so they tend not to worry about it as much.

Many women have lower iron, which can lead to anemia or thinner blood. Low iron makes you cold. Also, most men have more mass than women.

I think that women feel more cold than men because they have more body hair to keep the warm. Their skin is also thicker.

men have thick skin and are have a more tougher resistance,

most of the men do feel cold but just wont admit in front of any women to flaunt their manliness:)

because men typically have more muscle mass than women, which is constantly letting off heat and also insulating. Also, guys want to look macho and that they are tough, even if it means freezing to death
