Yes because we have expectations about how family should be and when it doesn't live up to the standard it is very painful and hard to let go of.

that really depends on the family.. some have the fortune of a great supportive family ...while others the family could hurt them more than any one else they could have ever known.. but then strangers can hurt too.. but when I think of the word strangers.. they don't know me.. so why should they hurt me more?? I guess the family would have more impact
