Open up a checking account now that you can use in Indiana and Florida. Have your SSI check directly deposited into that account. There are lots of banks and credit unions that are allover the country. That way your SSI check won't stop.

You can use your Indiana Medicaid until your Florida Medicaid kicks in.

Food stamps can get restarted almost instantly.

I have moved many, many times in 24 years of my son's life and he has never lost a day of SSI, Medicaid, or Food stamps.

Social Security is a federal program so you are eligible anyware in the US. There may be a difference in the cash benefit either higher or lower depending on the state you are moving to. Social security can project this for you before you make a decision on where to move.

The thing that you need to be concerned with is the programs that are state based like Food Stamps and Medical Assistance. These are income based and your eligiblity will depend on the amount of your benefits in a given state.

Before maling a move, I would speak to SSA and get a projected amount, then contact the state and ask if you would qualify under that amount

SSI is federal as others have said. My best advice would be to call SSA 1 800 772 1213 and talk to them. I recently moved from PA to IL and they were way more helpful than my local office. If you have direct deposit, there should be less hassle. As for your MA and Food Stamps, those will not transfer. You may or may not be eligible for Food Stamps because those use a different set of criteria state to state.Call a florida welfare office to ask about reapplying for benefits there, but ask SSA as well. You should plan for a 2-3 month lapse in MA and Food Stamps, at least

SSI is federal so it will go with you, however it may be adjusted up or down according to the cost of living by state.

You will have to reapply for EBT and medicaid but it shouldn't be very difficult since you are already receiving the SSI.

I would suggest you call or visit your social security office or your SSI case manager as they can answer all your questions or at least know who you need to get in touch with.

California has more benefits for disabled people than Florida.

I have a a friend on disability in Florida and she says she has to pay for most of her medication, optician and dental. I'm on disability in California.

California has FREE optician ( choice of Dr's and frames), 95% of meds are paid for, free over 60 dental clinic...Free help in the home for qualified disabled persons.

I'm not sure how they work the food stamps. I know you are given an additional supplimental check (SSI) when living in California, because of the higher cost of living here, which may include $ instead of food stamps.

my ex was on disability benefits from social security and he moved from ohio to california and then to arizona and had no problems what so ever with social security all he had to do was change his mailing address with them. i honestly dont see why there would be a problem with u moving. as for foodstams and medicaid i think all you would need to do is apply in whatever county you are moving to. i dont know much about fla. welfare system i live in ohio. i wish you the best good luck.
